FULL-TIME: Blackburn Rovers 0 Manchester City 4

HAVING A BALL Yakubu and Joleon Lescott battle it out HAVING A BALL Yakubu and Joleon Lescott battle it out

In what looked to be a promising start defensively for Rovers, come the second-half Steve Kean’s side suffered their fifth loss this season after failing to adjust to City’s change of tempo after the break.

First-half Blackburn were looking pretty steadfast at the back despite coming under pressure late on from Mario Balotelli.

An early shot from David Silva was parried away by Paul Robinson with Balotelli striking over on the rebound.

With only a handful of attacking displays, a much-welcomed run from Hoilett saw him beat three City players to deliver a ball to Yakubu only for him to be stopped entering the box.

Fighting back against City’s advances, Rovers kept up the defence throughout the half as a flurry of chances by Balotelli late in the half could have seen City in-front.

Come half-time Rovers went in with the scores level. Whilst their defending had been strong there was little in the way of attack; something Kean will have wanted to change after the break.

Balotelli quickly established himself as a threat once again after his shot just inside the box pounded back off the post on the 50th minute.

City’s attacking threats soon paid off as Adam Johnson curled one past Robinson after Givet’s clearance from the corner fell to his feet.

Rovers weren’t looking so tight at the back anymore after City quickly went 2-0 up when Samir Nasri’s cross was tipped in by Balotelli just shy of the 60th minute.

Rovers tried to gain the upperhand keeping City pressed into their own half for a while but again with little chance of a goal they couldn’t break onto the scoresheet.

Calls for a penalty from the Darwen End fell unheard after Pablo Zabaleta went down; only to be awarded a yellow card by referee Phil Dowd sixty-nine minutes in.

Related links

With Rovers failing to drive City out of their box, City inevitably gained their third after the ball fell to Samir Nasri and was driven in goal taking a deflection on the way.

Mauro Formica looked to gain one back for Rovers with a shot from the edge of the box but City keeper Joe Hart made easy work of the save.

With play switching from end to end for the remaining minutes a consolation goal for Rovers wasn’t looking likely apart from an attempt by Yakubu that failed to find the target.

Substitute Stefan Savic twisted the knife even further for Rovers with a headed goal four minutes from time putting City four up.

With Rovers failing to keep up with Mancini’s men after the break it’s no wonder they quickly found the scores against them.

Despite holding strong in the first-half, Rovers just couldn’t cope with City’s advances and with alarmingly few chances of their own to threaten the score came as little of a shock.

SK: We are slightly disappointed with the result but not the performance. After an impressive run of 2 games at home that could have brought us 6 points, there is always the possibilitty of a blip. And this is just another blip because we played excellent in the first half and contained City. If they had not scored when they did, we'd have got a thoroughly deserved draw. I thought we were excellent today, the lads showed they are all behind me, and I am right behind the Venkys, in fact right up their arse.

Kean, what the hell do you do on the training pitch that you keep talking about??? Johnson was totally unmarked on the edge of the box at a corner...schoolboys are coached better. The second was a good goal, the third a pantomime down the right with nobody getting a tackle in and we just watched them waltz into the box and Samba had lost interest for the fourth. We have no heart, no organisation and no leadership...on or off the pitch. When we lose, you normally have some stats on hand...what about this, one shot from inside the box in 90 minutes at home against City's 14 from inside the box. You defended too deeply and there was no commitment to get the ball. Kean, do the honourable thing, admit you're not up to the job and retain a little bit of respect by resigning. The fans will NEVER like you and you will never have our support, Roberto Mancini you ain't and you won't have the Rovers fans singing about you. You're an absolute disgrace to our club.

moh, yes there's a gulf, but we have no tactics and the players clearly don't know what they're doing. What's the point in playing Goodwillie in midfield...he has no notion of tracking back. Crawley Town could get 10 players behind the ball but we had no fight or commitment. Kean, just do the decent thing and go now to save yourself from more embarrassment with your incompetence

No doubt Kean will come out and tell the media that it was the third goal that did it for us, but that there were many positives to take from the performance. Once he’s lost the confidence of the players – which he has – there’s nowhere left to go.

Just a matter of time, now!

Yeah, pity football matches last for 90 mins.

Great reasoning there moh, "City absolute quality" and Rovers absolute sh8. What? Live with it? Accept that with our new free-flowing football and top-quality sigings that City had twice as much possession as us on our own patch? That we had one shot on goal at home? That City rammed four passed us? That we're almost nailed on to get relegated?

Get behind the team? What team? I just watched 11 individuals wearing a mutilated version of our colours get taken apart at home after City decided to move up the gears from 2nd to 3rd. There is no team because there is no leader. There is no leader because the owners haven't got a clue what they're doing.

But at least we have a ready-made excuse because we weren't ever really going to get anything of City were we?

Thought we were OK today in the first half bad in the second. No idea how to change the game once we conceded.

I thought the fans waited to the right point before shouting stuff. It was deserved. I am not sure they will pay any notice though. A new assistant will prob be appointed tomorrow.

Venkys have an ideal time now with the break in games for the internationals which should allow them time to bring in someone experienced and proven who can rescue the season for us.
Monday lunch time !!! He should be sacked NOW . No one wants him in our club.
If we want to make Venkys take notice we have to hit them where it hurts,in the pocket.Yes we still need to support the team because that`s what we do,but we should attend the game, don`t buy programmes, snacks,dr

Sorry about that back to the serious bits.

Please don't you the fickle supporters start moaning at your brilliant Manager the great Keano, Keano, keano.

He has got woeful woe-fer's playing really well. Love the way he is installing that losing mentality and letting the opposition score plenty of goals.

Also my hat goes off to the Venky's for doing an outstanding job at turdwood.

I hope they can still see the burning ambition in Keano and him being the so called next Sir Alex Ferguson.

What will really make my weekend Is for Owen Coyle to get Bolton back on the winning trail. Come on Bolton.

Well done to the clarets 2 yes 2 wins and 1 draw from last 3 games, 7 goals scored and 2 yes 2 conceded oh and 14th in the table with a game in hand a most teams.

Now come on you fickle fans don't get all upset and appreciate that at least one team is winning in our locality.

Burnley fans bragging on being 14th in the Chumpionship want to hang there heads in shame. Only a 6 fingers loser would think the bottom half of the mullets league is a good thing.

Back on topic, this is after all a Rovers forum is case you can read - not bad in the 1st but then again City didn't press us with everything they had. Once they did in the 2nd they just fell to pieces.

At 2-0 Mancini was still barking orders, Kean hands in pockets or flapping at side of his legs says it all.

You don't need to follow football to own a club, but it would help. When Venkys showed their hand time and time again, it was obvious times were going to be tough. They are more secretive now and very little gets out, which is dangerous.
When the owners start ignoring mistakes and talking rubbish it's another sign all is not well. When the inept Manager gets the backing of the owners, it's hard to believe. When all longstanding personel are leaving it's at least worrying.
Now when one of these things happen at your club is bad, but all, and more to boot, it is blatant disregard for the Rovers. There is no team at Ewood, just a group of players, and some very good ones.
SK is on cloud nine, Manager of a Premier League club and not having to go through the ranks, he must be on a very poor wage to still be at the club.
The set up at Blackburn is disgraceful, and no amount of fannying about can change that. There will be no top flight football at Ewood when these owners have chewed and spat out this once great club.I have no doubt that their cooing of certain supporters will be masterful, but while this is going on the club is freefalling, never to recover.
They never built up a relationship with the club, so they probably won't be sorry to fleece the last drops out. If anyone has any hope for the future of the current Rovers, they need to make a very long appointment with their GP and hope it wears off.

I am actuallyl feeling sorry for Venkys now, they came with good intentions and got such a lot wrong but this guy (SK) is stuffing them and milking them dry. Two points from the match today I thought it was quite funny (if it were not so serious) that when the city fans started chanting 'you're getting sacked in the morning' the Riverside and Blackburn End joined in. At the end of the match Robbo went to the Blackburn End pointing to the badge on his jersey which I interpreted to mean back the club (and not the manager).

no left back in the club, lowe looking like a little boy hrown to the lions against top class opposition on the right, emerton who could offer full back cover let go as he had been a "good servant to the club".
.
have to say at half time was talking to a pal and both of the view that we had done well to keep it level to 45mins - but if they scored one - there would be several.
.
to a large extent it is not today's result (more the poor performance) that is the worst as did anybody realistically expect anything today?....it was more the way we capitulated last week at barcodes.
.
felt a bit sorry for goodwillie today as he was clearly so awful and if you are playing that bad - it doesn't pay to wear luminous green boots.
.
we had a shot after about 80 mins which was a stinger (hoilett?) but comfortably saved by hart and again hoilett fed yakubu through after about 20 mins with a gem of a ball for a golden chance - but yak showed the first touch of peter sutcliffe...apart from that nothing.
.
funnily robinson didn't have much to do - cos city's shooting was fortunately wayward. if city had had shooting boots on it could have been more embarrassing.
.
kean is a dead man walking - either the team didn't play for him today or they were woefully under-prepared.

Had three years back in the UK and been able to see approx. 10 games per season during that time.
It seems the Club has lost it,s business and fan backing and with the Venky,s obviously out of their depth both money wise and Football wise, plus having to relying on an inexperienced Manager who lives in "cuckoo land"....it is looking like a winter of great discontent indeed.
For Kean has suggested a ten 10 finish with the squad he put together is proof he does live in "cuckoo land" and he is only fooling himself and the Venky,s (of course).
I return to NZ sadly having seen this afternoon,s display, lacking and all departments.
Half the team do not have the 1) fitness level 2) speed 3) skill 4) balls....to play in the Premier.
Kean...YOU PICKED THEM...YOU COACH THEM....YOU REALLY DO NEED TO GO....yet sadly the Venky,s is unlikely to be able to afford a "real" manager !!
It BIG picture is looking anything but positive.
It,s sad to see the whole saga being played out....I only hope for the supporters some kind of miracle before it is too late.

Before anything, that automatic premier league news tv box is probably the most annoying feature on any website on this planet. WHY must it go off automatically every time?

Okay, kean promised attacking football. Today was the deepest defensive line ive seen in my life, allardyce was gung ho compared to what i saw today.
I can almost accept that at 0-0, but once city got a goal, you are supposed to move up on the pitch and put more pressure higher up the pitch. Tears almost rolled down my eyes when city were 2-0 up and blackburn decided to defend even deeper.

IF you´re going to play 4-3-3 (yeah right), i mean 4-5-1, and you have signed two-three wingers, why on this planet earth do you place a forward (goodwillie) on the flank????

And where is the brazilian denis irwin? Jason lowe is not a right back. autually, hes not even a premiership player (yet).

And the signings, yes the signings. petrovic and goodwillie are great examples. They might be up for the task, next year.

I can guarantee our well respected owners 100% without any doubt at all, that next season Blackburn Rovers will be playing in the Championship if they keep Steve Kean as manager.
-
I have zero confidence in his abilities to organise a team or organise a defence to win Premiership football matches. I have zero confidence in us winning another match this season with him charge, other than maybe 5 or 6 lucky wins due to the other teams incompetence (like the Arsenal game).
-
Every fixture that we have I am dreading. We have some good games coming up, like away to QPR, which with a competent manager we would be going there and winning. With Kean it will most likely be a 3-1 or 3-2 loss.
-
KEAN OUT.
-
The longer the Venky's wait, the greater our chances of relegation increase by.
-
ACT NOW KEAN OUT.

This is the wrong fixture to judge Rovers.
*
Look at City's team and bench - and their realistic ambition to win the title and progress to the later stages of the Champions League. Nil - Nil at half-time was OK. Defensive and unambitious, but understandable.
*
After they scored I wanted to see a switch in tactics, but Kean kept it much the same apart from bringing on Formica. He should have made more changes at 2 - 0 and made his team show some fight and pride, but that is easier said than done against a team of City's obvious quality.
*
I 100% disagree with people who think that Kean's signings aren't good enough. What are you seeing when you watch a player?
*
Everyone has an opinion, but it is plain-as-day to see Formica, Rochina and Vukevic are very good technical footballers. Dann is a very sound defender, Petrovic is just about OK (but, hopefully still adapting), and a clearly unfit Goodwillie is a centre-forward that should play in and around the opposition box. Yakubu was isolated today and is much better with a partner alongside him.
*
Kean's inconsistent tactics and team selections are the real weakness we have and a proper manager would have them playing better as a team.
*
Salgado is too slow and Givet can be exploited at full-back, but to blame the players as generally lacking quality is bl00dy ridiculous.
*
The results are p!ss poor for sure, but Wolves and Everton scabbed it against us, we got a surprise 3 points against Arsenal, and an expected tonking by City. Home games against the mid and lower teams in the table will show how decent we are over the next month or so.
*
No, I'm not a Kean fan and I would like to see him go pronto. But most of our players will be with us for the whole season - so as fans let us show some loyalty to, and respect for them.
*
To all the happy Dingles: this season my modest objective is survival. A 18 in 21 chance. You lot have a much more difficult task. A 3 in 24 chance.

Dann is a very sound defender, Petrovic is just about OK (but, hopefully still adapting), and a clearly unfit Goodwillie is a centre-forward that should play in and around the opposition box. Yakubu was isolated today and is much better with a partner alongside him. * Kean's inconsistent tactics and team selections are the real weakness we have and a proper manager would have them playing better as a team. * Salgado is too slow and Givet can be exploited at full-back, but to blame the players as generally lacking quality is bl00dy ridiculous. * The results are p!ss poor for sure, but Wolves and Everton scabbed it against us, we got a surprise 3 points against Arsenal, and an expected tonking by City. Home games against the mid and lower teams in the table will show how decent we are over the next month or so. * No, I'm not a Kean fan and I would like to see him go pronto. But most of our players will be with us for the whole season - so as fans let us show some loyalty to, and respect for them. * To all the happy Dingles: this season my modest objective is survival. A 18 in 21 chance. You lot have a much more difficult task. A 3 in 24 chance.[/p][/quote]Yeah, 17 in 20. eddyo

I was at the game. Utterly utterly predictable. I saw there were decent odds on City scoring 4 or more. Should have put some notes on it as it was almost inevitable once the first went in we would collapse.

It's almost becoming the norm now to concede 3 goals each game no matter who we pay. Anyone remember Fortress Ewood? Nope me either. Seems a life time ago now, but it's only been since Kean took over we've been absolutely shambolic.

5 defeats out of 7 now, and that's not even considering his equally dire record last season as well. There is NO defence for Kean to remain as manager and he WILL NOT walk.

If Venkys don't get rid of him in this break, there is something seriously rotten at our club, and for the first time - I may start to believe the whispers that they are assett stripping to be true. It just makes no sense on any level (especially business) to watch a club you've invested in sink to a lower division and lose £50million all your best assets, UNLESS you want that to happen so you can sell club and assetts at a big profit. If so, Steve Kean is the perfect fall guy for that job.

KEAN OUT.
VENKYS - if you don't do the right thing for this club and get a REAL manager, WE WILL WANT YOU OUT NEXT.

100%, 1% protested because protesting requires effort, 100% are unhappy.

4 things which turned the tide on my opinion of kean today:

1) Kean didn't stand in his technical area once.
2) We had 3 shots on target, pure speculative shots.
3) There was no desire to keep the ball and attack
4) Kean used 1 sub when we've struggled for subs since the start of the season because of players getting injured, surely some combination Slew, Vucevic, Rochina, Roberts at 1-0 or 2-0 down could have swung the game.

Side Note: Robbo had a very poor game, he made 0 decent saves and goal 2 and 4 of the city goals were straight at him.

Ive always been a give kean a chance man, and i know there are still a lot of fans out there who say give him a chance, well he has now had his chance for the following reasons for me personally..

1.yesterday i was not expecting victory against city BUT FOR A MANAGER NOT EVEN TO APPROACH THE TOUCHLINE ALL GAME SHOWS A GUTLESS/SPINELESS character of a manager, who hasnt got the balls to take some abuse and to command his team!

2. Continual poor team selections and tactics. Playing salgado RB when he is far, far off the pace and givet at LB with no additional cover.
Yesterday starting Goodwillie on the ryt when we have simon/rochina/formic

a on the bench, formica had more of the ball in 20 mins than goodwillie did all game!
starting that big dopey giraffe petrovic when its obvious he`s not ready yet for the prem, or will ever be?? I have to admit he has signed some good players BUT, yesterday only made 1 sub all game in fear of coming to the touchline! pedersen worked his socks off and it was obvious he was struggling after 70 mins, and hes just come back from injury!!

3. His STUPID STUPID comments during interviews throughout the week and after games....`i thought we were excellent today` (just beaten 3-1 off villa) every interview....."WE`LL TAKE OUT THE POSITIVES FROM THAT"

4. He`s never going to sign world class players with the reputation he has.

5.HIS STATS SIMPLY SAY IT ALL

What a superb weekend, Great day out in london yesterday, The beer was certainly flawing at london bridge were hundreds of clarets fans were basking in the sunshine,

Then it was off to the new den to whatch the mighty clarets in action, Must admit it was rather a dull match but 'what the hell' a win is a win

And then 'crash bang wollop' The devastating news comes through that my tramp like friends from down the road have been well and truly thrashed yet again,

Just wish i could express my sincere sorrow to KDG but he/she what ever seems to have returned to dale farm to give support to family and friends. fair play to you, I hope it all goes well with the eviction....

Great pleasure in watching this on MOTD this morning and I have to say, the Grintwums were lucky to get nil.

And the lookers in the 'crowd' (swathes of empty seats everywhere) shown on the telly! Do you HAVE to be a deformed, genetically disadvantaged mutant to get in to that shambles of a ground?

Alright TEFL teacher? Swathes of empty seats? Love that one, don't you, you lot? Try Turd Moor and the empty seats there every single weak or do you lot come in fancy dress as plastic empty seats.

Where's your missing 7,000 so-called fans you lost overnight? You were practically giving season tickets away n order to fill that fcking shed Turd Moor in your one off season with the big lads.

Look, you're in the bottom half of a league lower than Rovers, have only spent one season in the top division in what, nearly 40 years and haven't beaten Rovers for over half a century... what is it now, 34 years... i've lost count... you fcking sad c.o.c.k.

I remember Lancashire Cup games against B*rnley before Jack Walker. and Rovers always used to beat B*rnley.

Stop with all that "you only started supporting Rovers since Jack Walker"; after 25 years it is wearing a little thin.

You haven't beaten Rovers for 34 years or is 36 years, i've honestly lost count?

I remember Rovers taking 5,000 to the Turd Moor shed in 1989, only 4,000 B*rnley fans on, think Stapleton got 2 on a 2-0 win for Rovers.

Your fans were rubbish and no sucking squad anywhere.

Stop fantasizing.

1. I am not a TEFL (whatever that is) teacher.

2. I don't know where you get the presumptions from. Burnley AREN'T my team so what you say about them is like trying to insult me by calling me a Chinaman.

Now face some inescapable facts; Grintwum Rorvurs are riding the crest of a slump; play in a ground with acres of empty seats and are only not bottom because there's one worse team around AT THE MOMENT.

But carry on trying to extricate you and your destiny by firing off meaningless insults. There's a good lad.

The alarm bells started ringing as soon as the Walkers gave the club away.
The sacking of Sam was an amazing decision and then to cap it all John Williams a man with blue blood in his veins was shafted.
The only way with Kean in charge is down....these are not the rantings of a mad man but a life long Rovers fan.I just cant understand why some Rovers fans are still insisting on giving Kean a chance,he,s had it already and blown it,the facts dont lie!!
Please act now before its too late, ship Kean out and get a manager in charge who can motivate players and has experience of the premiership.

No, the main difference is that Rovers are in the Premier League; have won the Premier League; won the League Cup; won the Full Members Cup; won the on First Division twice; old Second Division Champions once; old Third Division Champions once and won the FA Cup six times - Rovers have also been in six domestic cup competition semi-finals in ten years - a phenomenal achievement.

What have Bradford and B*rnley won?

Also, less of the racist undertones in comparing Blackburn with Bradfrord, I can see what you are doing. It is particularly ironic when one considers the immense social deprivation within B*rnley.

It is the manner of the defeats. Fortunately, Rovers have no been cut adrift yet, if Rovers can get Hughes back or even Souness, we stand a good chance of staying up and finishing in a good position.

Rovers have a good squad but poorly managed.

Ah, I remember now. You ARE Titley! And as you will remember, you calling me a coward is like you calling me a Grintwum: like what you are.

I did call you out then, and do so now,, but you wormed out of it then and I fully expect you to worm out of it again this time.

But then you're probably out of 'privileges' at your home and your CPN is almost serpently reluctant to let you out on your own. After last time, like.

And if you're too stupid (goes without saying) to know who my team is, I'm not going to put you out of your considerable misery by letting you know. Everyone else does, but you're too schizo to fathom big boy stuff out like that. You no-mark nobber.
Oh dear, more predictable semi-literate drivel from poor little cowardly Crispin.

Sigh, I'm not tetley so stop projecting your deviant little man-crush onto me. Whoever tetley is/was they've obviously made quite an impression on your feeble little mind.

When did you (ahem) call me out exactly? Ooh get a load of cowardly Crispin the keyboard warrior!

Ha ha, what a sap!

Big baby.
Quentin Crisp is also to ashamed to admit which rubbish he supports.

Classic.

Yep. The poor little lamb is a massive coward.

What sort of big soft baby comes on a footy forum giving it the big one without revealing who he himself actually supports?

Delicate little Princess Crispin attempts to dish it out (and fails) but can't take it.

What a colossal fairy.

PS Quentin Crisp - that's a good one mate. Sums her up quite nicely!
