Rovers boss Henning Berg
Rovers suffered back to back defeats as Bolton ran out winners in a one-sided Lancashire derby.
Jordan Rhodes handed Henning Berg's side a lifeline with a header eight minutes from time but by then goals from Kevin Davies and Chung-Yong Lee had taken the game away from the home side.
The result leaves Berg still looking for his first home win since taking charge heading into the East Lancs derby trip to Burnley on Sunday.
Davies gave the visitors the perfect start with a rifled drive after being afforded too much space and Chris Eagles could have had a hat-trick in the first half had it not been for Paul Robinson in the home goal.
After the game, Rovers gained more of a foothold but Lee doubled the visitors' lead when he tapped home after a combination of Robinson and the post kept out Eagles' free kick.
Substitutes Colin Kazim-Richards and Morten Gamst Pedersen injected a bit of life to Rovers and the former crossed for Rhodes to halve the deficit but it was too little too late.
