Blackburn Rovers blog: Venky’s should accept they’ve made mistakes
HOW out of touch can the Raos be? It was astonishing to hear the comments last week, telling fans ‘not to worry’ and that Steve Kean is a ‘brilliant’ manager.
That’s not what they should be saying. They should accept they have made mistakes, and actually come out with some sort of action plan.
He has done nothing to deserve the tag of ‘brilliant’ manager. He may well be a brilliant coach, and a popular person among the players, but he’s a long way to go yet before he is a brilliant manager.
What does Balaji expect the reaction to such comments to be?
“Oh, that’s okay then. I’ll stop worrying about the fact we’re second from bottom. And I guess it’s just a minor blip that’s seen us win six Premier League games in 28 since he took over.”
It was, as the Lancashire Telegraph’s front page said, unbelievable.
It really is frustrating to hear so many people asking the fans to remain calm, when all we can see is apparent chaos on and off the pitch.
We’ve had it from everyone at Venky’s, the manager, both captains – Ryan Nelsen and Chris Samba – and then David Dunn told us to ‘get real’. Cheers for understanding our frustrations Dunny.
The two things that are clear to me after those comments are that Venky’s appear to know very little about football, and Kean will probably remain as manager, no matter what the fans say or how bad the situation at the club becomes.
Aside from that, I do believe the trip to India has been worthwhile.
With the owners being from India, a pretty much untapped market in the world of Premier League football, Rovers can really establish themselves there if the marketing is done right.
The match was a nice showpiece, and a chance for the players to forget about the stresses of a Premier League relegation battle, running out comfortable 3-0 winners in a game in which we had 30 shots on target!
Hopefully that will give the players a bit of confidence to go down to QPR on Saturday and bring us the result we desperately require.
The plans to open Rovers shops, like the one in Blackburn town centre, is also a positive step.
With Indian owners, it’s a perfect time to try to get the Blackburn Rovers brand over to the east.

Would a goal every 10 shots on target against a half-rate team really give you confidence?

Good, fair piece Dan.
Interesting to see Liverpool challenging the right to negotiate overseas contracts, the fact we have Indian owners might well help should it become law? But back to the present, Venkys need to appoint a proven Premiership manager over the next couple of weeks.

John Williams had a consistent record of making wise decisions throughout his time in charge as opposed to the consistently bad decisions that now occur time and again which leaves me baffled to understand how venkys run a successful business!
Venkys are as clueless as our manager, the one man who could have assisted and guided them through the difficult initial settling in period, they cold shouldered and got rid of. Mr Williams leaving the club is by far the biggest mistake that Venkys have made, even worse than appointing Kean as manager their tenure has been one long catalogue of errors. The question should be when if ever will they learn from their glaring mistakes i for one wont be holding my breath.

First we let the USA grab its independance, then we gave India back!!
If we carry on we will have a southerner in charge of the Country, and foreigners in charge of Blackburn!!

I think they believe everything that Walter Mitty tells them, and it's only due to bad luck that we are second bottom, and that very soon, we will be climbing the table and challenging for a CL/EL place, and all of Europe's top players will soon be queuing up to sign for us.
The truth however, is very different. And until Venky's realise the error of their ways, then our spectacular demise will continue unabated.

What worries me is that if kit man kean was a manager at any other club in the entire league, he would be long gone by now. So one asks, why is he still here.
It cant possible be for footballing reasons so it must be something else, but what. Will we ever find out, why has BFS, Danish Pastry,Tom Finn or the brillant John Williams not commented, have they all had to sign a affidavit. All i know is that i have had enough and i am seriously thinking of not attending anymore while this Baffoon is in charge.

I don't want Venkys to do a Tony Blair and sob some sugary "sorry" in public, I want to see that they have Rovers' interests at heart which means telling Airmiles that he has four games, irrespective of excuses, to get a grip otherwise it's outski.
There is a serious problem tho' with the next manager, anyone with a brain is not going to take Venkys conditions of a monthy to Pune and Anderson's malign self-interest.
Also, in the long run, the virtual sacking of Williams, will be seen as a bigger blow to Rovers overall welfare as an over-achieving provincial club than losing talent like Jones, who after all was destined to go sooner or later.

I'm afraid we were just pioneers, opening the doors for the big clubs to move in whilst we langish in the Championship next season. The Blackburn Rovers brand will count for SFA unless we regularly feature in EPL games on far eastern sat TV as at the moment. Venkys can't you see the patently obvious?

Such is Venky's naivety and ignorance in all things football, i'm convinced that they think they have done nothing wrong, and that everything is fine down at Ewood.
I think they believe everything that Walter Mitty tells them, and it's only due to bad luck that we are second bottom, and that very soon, we will be climbing the table and challenging for a CL/EL place, and all of Europe's top players will soon be queuing up to sign for us.

A fair article. Some comments on other's comments. I agree that getting rid of/letting John Williams go, was a huge error - but he has gone. Do any of those advocating the return of Mark Hughes know whether he would accept the job if Kean went and he were offered it? I'd love it, but I'm not sure that he would see a return as part of his career development. If he wasn't enthusiastic, who would the fans want? Martin O'Neill - can't see him accepting the constraints. Alan Curbishley - too far North. Who?

if it's the first point then i worry about our arrogance, if it has indeed got to that stage. yes kean has not done well, and there have been some poor results, but let's really think about it. things have really decended since the 0-4 to man city. we should not accept defeat easily, but city are currently averaging over 3 goals a game and have a squad worth a crazy amount of money. there were calls after the fulham game for that to have been a must win for a 'club like rovers'. this was a draw, away, at a team who just put 6 past another prem club. newcastle out fought and out thought us - it happens; everton we should have won; wolves we were poor but could easily have picked something up... i think what i am trying to say is that i see that the new owners have come in to our club and are looking to do things differently. i think the players see that too, and i guess i am prepared to be much more patient than a lot of other fans. i also realise that things cannot always be good. i thought more fans of our small town club recognised that fact too.
what i can't abide is the character assassination of our manager and owners when we have absolutely no idea what it's like to do their jobs. i was all for ince to be removed, but at no point would i have vocalised that in the way some are doing now. i saw that ince was doing what he could, but was flawed. the same could be said of kean, but i can see he is doing his best, so for that he will have some respect. now that we have the owners' ear, we have a forum through which to have healthy debate. i very much hope that brings a stop to this misguided campaign to disrupt the managment. i fear it won't though, as people won't get the instant perfection that they seem to want.

I would be interested to learn what our fellow fans said to the Raos out there in India.I hope they stated all these facts starting with the sacking of BFS not my favourite but there is a proper time to change managers and it wasn't when we had no replacement.
The main concern now is how we are going to change a shambolic team into a team of winners and in my eyes we do need Mark Hughes back even though I doubt he would return.Martin O'Neil seemed to lose it at Villa so it is difficult finding someone else if Mark isnt interested, maybe Benitez would come but other than a win in the Champions league(phew!) he did not set Anfield alight in the league.I think we may be better appointing Glen Hoddle and demoting Kean to the coaching staff again as it is a tactician we need now to organise the side to stop leaking goals.

garyintandem wrote:No way will JW ever come back to Ewood mate...except with City when they play us.
I repeat, Venkys should fly in to Manchester and get down on their knees and apologise to John Williams. Admit they made a mistake, and put him in total charge of the club in the UK. I believe he would walk back to Ewood unless he's made ceo or chairman of City, provided he is given assurances that he's in charge. He can then sack Kean and approach Hughes in the right way.
He was a good man to have on the board and he did a very good job at the Rovers in the 14 years he was here - but things change (and dont we know it) and people move on and he has another job now that is much better paid and much more exciting than anything he ever did down here.
For those who still worship at the church of JW then maybe it is a good time to recall some of what he said when Venkys first bought the Rovers:
"We do not want negativity around the place. That could work to our disadvantage by playing into the hands of our upcoming opponents. We need solidarity in every area. Football is a precarious business, fuelled by opinion, but I repeat that this is a time for everyone with a love for Blackburn Rovers to really show their support. This is not about individuals, either. It is about the club – first, second and third."
Wise words from a wise man which are worth remembering now especially by Venkys who could also learn from them and try and work harder to put some pride back into the town and the club.
