Blackburn Rovers blog: Time is right for manager change Blackburn Rovers blog: Time is right for manager change

I HAVE not previously been an advocate for the removal of Steve Kean as Blackburn Rovers manager.

However, after the terrible scenes at Ewood on Saturday, I’m afraid my position must change.

I still maintain that I’m not sure Venky’s will be able to persuade anyone fantastic to take the Rovers hotseat were they to finally pull the trigger on Kean, but the situation has become untenable.

Everyone could see on Saturday a real atmosphere of discontent has surfaced at the club.

The fans are not happy. The media is not happy. The team cannot be happy, and surely Steve Kean is miserable right now.

A colleague who was at Ewood on Saturday said to me: “If a 10-year-old kid is shouting ‘Kean out’ at you, you have to walk.” I am inclined to agree.

A couple of weeks ago I made reference to an exchange with my Blackburn End neighbour, where we agreed it had not felt this bad in our times watching Rovers.

And not since the back end of Don Mackay’s reign has one manager been so roundly disliked by the Rovers faithful.

The truth, as Andy Cryer said in yesterday’s match report, goes beyond Kean and up to Venky’s. But the owners are not as easily interchangeable as the manager.

Mrs Desai and the two Rao brothers have a lot of work to do to save this football club. They took it over dreaming of the millions that Premier League football could bring into their business.

Releg-ation is not an option for anyone.

One massive question is who is in charge?

We hear a lot of rumours.

Everyone knows someone, whose uncle’s best friend’s dog’s afternoon walker has a cousin who works at the club, and they are all experts.

But the one that keeps being uttered is that there is no real leadership. John Williams and Tom Finn walked. Paul Hunt was brought in, but he’s not the boss.

Someone in Blackburn needs to be running the show. You simply cannot run a business in East Lancashire when you’re in Pune.

And certainly not one that means so very much to so many people.

Kean is the scapegoat for now.

But Venky’s, I implore you, if you do not sort this out fast, it will escalate quickly and you will find yourself with very few friends in the stands at Ewood Park.

Just to chuck a name in to the hat - Nigel Adkins (the Southampton manager). Instead of talking about big names and why they won't come, why not bring in a talented up and coming manager with a proven record of turning things around? (Look at what he's done at Soton and Scunthorpe)

Yes I know we could (or probably will) be in the same league as them next season, but he has experience of turning around failing teams, and doing it with good, attacking football. Like us he lost his best young player this summer, Oxlade-Chaimberlain, but it hasn't changed their results.

Could be worth a shout!

The thing your all missing is this little insignificant Blog should be splashed all over the front page of tomorrows LET with an Express Delivery landing on Venkys doorstep in the morning.

It's going to be too little too late soon. The International break is the perfect time to sack him, and once he lands today/tomorrow and starts his bum licking routine he'll come back for QPR with a Number 2 and a contract extension.

Yes have to agree wholeheartedly with pretty much everything written. However, I wouldn't class Kean in the same class as Don Mackay. Mackay was not as roundly disliked as Kean....far from it. Mackay did an excellent job with the money he had at his disposal and was unlucky not to manager us in the top division. Don is still well respected by the majority of Rovers fans.

Don Mackay also bought us Colin Hendry for 30k from Dundee, and got Steve Archibald on loan from Barca!!

Decent Gaffer Don,his win ration at Rovers was 39.22% compared to SK's 21.43%.

Don very nearly got us promoted with very little finance.

There are clubs with alot bigger fanbase and infrastructure waiting to take our place. In the past we were a well run club with talented people working behind the scene's. Now we are a rudderless ship with s drink driver at the helm. How we have fallen apart so quickly is purely due to the Venkys. They need to show real leadership & commitment to our club. If not they will lose any money invested & we the fans who love OUR club will hate them forever. Kean OUT!

Not doubting Mackay had a decent spell at Rovers, but the end of his reign was bad. I was only four when he was sacked, so this is just what I was told by someone who was there with all the Nuttall Stand singing "We want Mackay out."

As for Big Col, still my favourite player of all time at Rovers. Hate what's happened to him in recent years.

I honestly believe venkys have our club best at heart, I do not believe in the asset striping consiracy towards them.

They sold P.Jones yes, but lets be honest, a lad with that potential we was never going to keep him.

They have splased out 7.7 mil for dann, and a few million for the other players, simon, goodwillie, and the others, now if they was asset stripping they just wouldnt of bought anyone.

They regulary give interviews on granada tonight, sky sports news, and often post statements on the rovers website, which youll find other premier league owners do not do.

The only mistake they made in my view is the promisies of beckhams, ronaldinhios, rauls, these kind of players mis led the fans when these world class players did not materialise.

The only thing thats spoiling the party is the appointment of steve kean, who has had his chance to prove his worth.

should he lose the game against QPR then he`ll have the record of the worst premier league manager in history!!

What do people think about Keans style of play? I do prefer it.

Kean needs to decide though, I think going with Hoilett, Formica and Rochina with Dunn and Nzonzi supporting them just behind, is a team that can open any defence. This is what beat Arsenal, with Yakubu finishing.

I think Keano could keep his job if he picks the right team, and that means no Salgado and Givet as full backs.

As I have posted previously Kean is not the problem, although he doesn't help himself he is the easy target as Venky's attempt to manage a PL club from thousands of miles away.
.
Kean has no visible support system in place, he is virtually on his own, bad enough for an experienced manager but for one in his first year?, I would say impossible.
.
Simple fact of life, I can't think of one, single, experienced manager who would be thick enough to take this appalling job on when Kean is sacked, not even Steve MacLaren.
.
What experienced manager or coach would be willing to jet off to India every 5 minutes to explain in words of one syllable what is happening?
.
None.
.
Venky's are at fault here, 100%, the only decent thing they have done since taking over is getting rid of Allardyce, since then it's been a catalog of disaster after disaster.
.
Thats where the protests should be targeted, they haven't a bloody clue.

You can't blame the Venky's for poor team selection, tactics and substitutions. And I'd say most of what Rovers fans hate about SK is his total delusion after games - just look at last Saturday. According to him the first goal was the turning point.... then the second goal was the turning point... then the third goal was the turning point... then the fourth. Or against Newcastle when he said we were the better team until their third goal. He keeps making a fool of himself. Why can't he be like Mick McCarthy or Neil Warnock and admit when the team played badly?

The Venky's are naive. Very naive in fact, but I have no doubt they have the club's interests at heart and genuinely want to do what's best for the club. Yes they've made some questionable decisions. I liked BFS - I'd rather see us safe than anything. He created a platform where a sound defense would allow a more free-flowing manager t build on. Sadly we got a Donut.

Talking of flying off everywhere, why did he have to fly to Canada to deal with Hoilett? Doesn't he have people to do that for him? He's the gaffa, it's his choice.

The fact is the man's a total buffoon who live's in his own world. He needs to go and let an experienced manager have a crack at life under the chicken farmers. Maybe they'll fail, maybe they'll succeed. Until its tried we're stuck with this carp. Surely it's worth trying when you've got 4 points from a possible 21...
