Blackburn Rovers blog: Swagger just what Ewood needs right now
ASK the average Englishman to name a famous Montenegrin and they might struggle.
The Balkan country has attracted little attention since breaking away from Serbia in 2006 but one of its citizens could yet have a profound impact on Blackburn Rovers.
Having produced the likes of Dejan Savicevic and Predrag Mijatovic prior to independence, Mirko Vucinic is the big star of the Montenegro side. Simon Vukcevic is not far behind.
At around £2m, Rovers may have found themselves a bargain.
Vukcevic had been linked with a move to the Premier League for some time and clearly possesses the talent to make it in England.
Good feet, strength and a certain swagger. The sort of qualities that could come in rather useful.
The swagger perhaps hints at the reason why Vukcevic was available at a knockdown price. Now 25, his potential at 20 had been such that Russian side Saturn paid 7m euros for him, only for thorny relations with staff to prove his undoing.
There may be something of the El-Hadji Diouf about Vukcevic. That might not be the worst thing.
Capable of playing all across the midfield or as a second striker, if Rovers can harness Vukcevic’s ability they could yet find him capable of lifting a somewhat downbeat mood right now.
