Blackburn Rovers column: Hendry deserves to be given chance
3:10pm Thursday 12th July 2012 in Blackburn Rovers blogs
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
COLIN Hendry’s presence in Blackburn Rovers’ Austrian training camp surely suggests ‘Braveheart’ will be on the Ewood Park staff for the forthcoming Champion-ship season.
In typical Venky’s fashion, the appointment has yet to be finalised as the owners drag their heels on rubber stamping Hendry’s position. It does seem another example of ‘Venky’s time’.
It should be only a matter of time before Hendry’s arrival is formalised though and I can already imagine the mixed response the return of a club legend will get.
There is no doubt, by accepting a job on the coaching staff, Hendry will be jeopardising his status among some Blackburn Rovers’ fans.
There are still a lot of supporters who don’t trust anything about the regime and will see Hendry’s appointment as an attempt by under fire boss Steve Kean to ingratiate him with the Ewood faithful. You can understand the cynicism as well.
I don’t see why Hendry’s imminent appointment automatic-ally has to be linked with all the negatives going on around the club at the moment though.
If Hendry had been appointed before the Venky’s regime, you could be assured the majority of Rovers would have welcomed his introduction on to the coaching staff.
We are talking about a Rovers legend. One of the best defenders ever to have played for the club, a player who helped Rovers.
Too often in the past, Rovers have ignored former players when it comes to the coaching staff.
I’m not saying Hendry is the answer. After all, his managerial record is not the best while he has been out of the game for a while now. It will be interesting to see how he gets on.
One thing is for sure, Rovers could do with some help defensively after last season.
Hopefully Hendry can help make the team tougher to beat.
I don’t hold with the view that Hendry has become a ‘traitor’ because he has agreed to work for Blackburn Rovers. Take away who the owners and the manager is, Hendry has been offered a job in the game he loves at the club he loves. Why would he turn that down?
This appointment should be the start of a new chapter for him.
Whether it works or not only time will tell. But surely it is only fair to give him a chance?

Just when I thought the Club couldn't get any lower this happens. Are they really so clueless in understanding the mood of the supporters?

I have Kean and the current regime with a passion, but fondly remember Hendry making his debut in the full members cup at Ewood and going on to score the winner at wembly in that competetion.
I also have great memorys of him playing a huge part in the title winning. It would be easy to dismiss this appointment as a vain attempt to get the fans onside, but he is a Rovers legend, despite his trouble. I have to say a big welcome to Colin and I do hope he bucks the trend with these lot and brings some good back to the club.
On another matter does anyone remember little Jonny Price and what came of im?

I am disapointed in Colin for taking this post but I think that fans should just ignore it - he has had a very tough time since finishing playing, some of it his own making and some not but he probably needs the work (yes he'll have a decent pension) be he's still a young man and should work and given his very poor showning as a manager/coach so far, who else is really going to emply him, if not Rovers ?

Until Kean is removed from this club, the poison will remain and the club will not cease to regress at a pretty rapid rate.
If Kean remains at our club for the entire season then we will be closer to League 1 than the Premiership in 2013/2014, without even the slightest of doubts.

Where did Andy Cryer get this load of tosh from then?
"The 36-year-old signed a two-year deal at Ewood Park last week and revealed he turned down several other offers, including one from Premier League Everton."
Nothing has changed. How do the management at Ewood expect to win back support when we are being fed this garbage! And really, Andy, it is high time you stopped your PR releases on behalf of Kean, and started some hard hitting reporting that lifts the lid on the devaluation of Rovers.

.com), whilst I remember him as a great player for Rovers, his subsequent career was notable only for its insignificance. I really can't see what positives he would bring to the club and if Venkys think his appointment, if he has in fact been appointed, will win over the fans, they are sorely mistaken IMHO. His post Rovers antics make even Coco look like Mother Theresa.

If you don't like the LT don't read it if you hate Venky's and Kean don't go Rovers but let the ones who do like the LT and will still be going Rovers enjoy it without your constant moaning.
Owners,Managers and players come and go but true fans will be in the ground through thick and thin.
Cue the abuse from fickle childish young boys!

He has had much turmoil and sadness in his life and made some bad life decisions which have been well recorded in the media and which I bet he sorely and bitterly regrets now. But that is his life to deal with.
I think he will be an asset to the Rovers training staff and to the club and think that he will be here long after the current mob have been got rid off.
I wish Colin well and hope he can get on with his new job without all the terrible abuse that some have aimed at him already. Let he who is without sin and all that....

Is this sort of man the club should employ? He seems a typical Steve Kean selection! Maybe Shebby should read the website www.colinhendrylies.

Just because he was a great player doesn't mean we'll just blindly adore him. It's his actions off the field which have given him his current reputation and we can see beyond the blue tinted glasses to a scot lurching after a pay-packet.

Isn't it funny how the other Hendry story comments were pulled by the LET. Shame on you LET for silencing the vast majority of Rovers' fans who are sick to death of seeing their club destroyed by greedy and disgraceful individuals. It seems you would rather protect a useless drunk driver together with a man who ripped off his elderly neighbours, taunted them with abusive text messages and called the police when they challenged him in the street. SHAME ON THE LOT OF YOU!!!!!
