Blackburn Rovers Column: Hunt’s departure is another low at Ewood

ONCE again Venky’s have got it horribly wrong. Just when there are signs that someone in the Blackburn Rovers hierarchy did actually know what he was doing, it looks like he has had to leave.

Going on the past 18 months I guess we shouldn’t be surprised.

Paul Hunt’s believed exit yesterday morning wasn’t a shock, after Tuesday’s leaked letter left him in an embarrassing position, but he had only written what everyone else had been saying.

I don’t actually know what he has done wrong. Everything said in the letter, maybe apart from his promotion, was spot on.

The owners are the ones with questions to answer for not listening to him.

Hunt merely advised the owners.

He told them they needed to invest, they needed to sack Kean and they needed to trust their executive.

What has he done wrong?

The fact Venky’s are not prepared to listen to this advice shows they are not the right owners for Blackburn Rovers.

They aren’t the right owners for any football club.

The first person they should have been asking to leave was manager Steve Kean, who has failed miserably in his job. Yesterday’s chaos just summed up the disgrace of a club that Rovers have become.

We heard the suggestion that Hunt had gone as early as 9.30am, but Rovers had still not confirmed the news last night.

The club was not being difficult, it was purely because no-one at Ewood Park had a clue what was going on.

They were as much in the dark as anyone else.

All yesterday has shown is highlight Hunt was right when he appealed for Venky’s to start trusting their executive.

At the moment the club is absolutely rudderless.

Just who is running this club now?

The more you look at it, the more it seems only Steve Kean and Anuradha Desai have any clue about what is going on at the football club.

You just hope it wasn’t a case of Hunt or Kean who had to go.

I see how their relationship had become untenable, but surely the wrong one has gone?

Hunt showed in his letter he did know what was needed to attempt to turn things around, he was ignored. Kean has shown no sign of that and he gets praised.

Ultimately, Hunt will surely be better off for an Ewood exit.

He will know though deep down there is no recovery under Venky’s.

Will the last one out turn off the lights.

Mr Cryer......so true, has it seriously come to this a football a club that my dad used to play for the Blackburn youth team back in the 50,s and played with Ronnie Clayton, Bryan Douglas Roy Vernon and Peter Dobing... he never go into the first team such was the quality at that time but go offers from other clubs but loved Blackburn so much that he couldn’t bear leaving.....He brought me up to love this club and I went to my first game against Bristol City away, I remember Terry Gennoe, Howard Gale, Simon Garner, Scott Sellers, Atkins, Ossy Ardilles, stood on the terrces, they were exciting wonderful times.....Now well what can I say to describe the current setup...Dark, depressing, Counterproductive, dishonest, un connected, cold. Please give me my club back.

Fully agree that this is a new low of end endless number of lows. But maybe it's actually a good and well-times move for Hunt?

If the Rovers wind up in administration, Hunt is no part of it, and as per the letter, noone will come to reposes his familys home. By going public he might just have avoided an ultimate personal bankruptcy.

Agree Andy that the Venkys are not the right owners for any football club and agree with most of the rest of the article - but all these anti Kean and anti Venky articles that we are reading/hearing now from the LET and almost every national daily and SSN and everyone in football (with the exception of Bradley Orr) are all too little too late.

How can everyone be so wise after the event (relegation) when Rovers fans have been derided for saying the same thing for over 12 months.

Not much more to say that has not already been said - just need o hear the message from the club/owners after their coming meeting in London this weekend....they HAVE to make the obvious changes and TELL us what they are planning to do with the club.

Although it was sarcastically suggested earlier in the season, events and comments over the last two days, indicate that Steve Kean is running the club. Anyone who is not loyal to Steve Kean has been shown the door, players and staff alike. Graham Jones MP raised the issue last night, no doubt not for the first time, so when are the media and press going to start framing interviews around asking the difficult questions? The truth must come out eventually. I think we realise that Kean's contradictory (lies) comments on comings and goings and long term ambitions mean nothing. We can already see the trend of reducing player wages to minimum wage with the possibility the academy teams will merge into the first team too. Rovers will be lucky to avoid a slide into League One. Did I read parts of Brockhall were to be sold off to housing developers to raise cash? Steve Kean is not going to sack himself. It is now down to the media to grill him about his position on a daily basis. For too long Steve Kean has dodged questions with non answers and ramblings. He must be pressed and genuine questions around accountability and management need to be clarified. The tide is turning and it seems the world are beginning to see him in a new light, but the momentum needs to increase before Man City and Euro 2012 headlines render our Rovers issue old, boring and irrelevant in the national press. Lead the charge Andy.

Not at all; Hunt is a professional operator, having benefitted from the wisdom of Mr Williams. He obviously believes he has the ability to carry out the role, nothing wrong with that. He is the only Ewood employee to come out of this whole debacle with any shred of credibility. Perhaps they will heed his advise, though and appoint Mrs Kean to the role!

Can we all please get together and make a statement about not attending matches and renewing our season tickets until at the very least Kean is gone and there is a statement of intent from Venkys. There was a letter to the media produced some months ago stating our case. we need another one. Who can organise this? I don't live in Blackburn anymore so a little out of it despite attending all the matches.

There is only one group of people left that have so far been silent on these issues and thats the players, they have to stand up and be counted now, surely they cannot enjoy coming into work everyday and seeing the headlines, playing in matches where the managers is continually taunted and threatened. I would love to see the players stage a sit in at half time at chelsea, refuse to go in for the team talk , show the fans where their loyalty lies, to the fans not the wage packet. This cannot continue the rights and wrongs of Kean are meaningless compared to the restoration of our club, his position is untenable and our chances of attracting any player to this club are negligable, some of the first team squad will move on now, so do us a favour before you go get some home truths out there.

Personally, IMO, anyone who spends money or time on THEIR(Venky's/KEAN'S

If you had a family member or loved one with a heroin addiction or a alcohol addiction, would you time after time give them money knowing full well the money was being used by them to feed their destructive addiction and ultimately aid their demise? NO!

STAY AWAY TILL THEY'VE GONE!!!

LETS ALL GO ON STRIKE!!!!

Don't renew season tickets just yet.

I can understand the views of both sets of fans on this one. The "It's our club not theirs" approach. I also understand the stay away until the b@st@rds have gone point of view. if we are split then we will be ridiculed by all and sundry due to our poor attendances in future. This will alienate the fans and will do little to bring Venky's and Kean under the media spotlight.

In my opinion the fans should declare their support of the club and their real concerns by participating in a very public and well supported strike.

I love Blackburn Rovers as we all do but i think a strike is the best option. We dont walk away from the club we simply go on strike and withdraw our support until the management come to the table and aknowledge our concerns and enter in to dialogue.

As a neutral I have been following this debacle for some time. I am sad to say I don't see anyway back for Rovers in the near future. I would suggest that the position of foreign ownership should be addressed urgently by the F.A. People keep mentioning the walker family, just remember they sold the club to the venky's amid promises of investment etc, etc, The final straw of insanity came when Maradona's name was mentioned, I knew then the owners were in cloud cukoo land and the future of the club was in dire danger. I feel sorry for the die hards who have already bought season tickets. The only effective way of saving your club is to buy it, As it is close to bankrupcy now, don't be suprised if the closes the doors in the very near future.

The threat of Hunt losing his home was absolute bulsh*t , can you name anyone from Glasgow Rangers to Portsmouth who have gone into administration and lost their home ??
Hunt was merely after a rise in salary and thought he was able to step into John Williams shoes and the inflated salary that went with it>>It was only last week he was spouting Venkys lies about season tickets sales going well !! me thinks he speaks with fork tongue and deserved to be fired !!
