Andy Cryer blog: Blackburn Rovers fans want pride - not cash
1:20pm Thursday 12th April 2012 in Blackburn Rovers blogs
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
IN ATTENDANCE Balaji Rao, now shorn of his ponytail, and Venkatesh Rao in the front row at Tuesday’s game
IT has now become pretty obvious that Blackburn Rovers fans don’t have a future of big money signings to look forward to under owners Venky’s.
Forget the early promises and naive predictions of the arrival of big name players that have haunted the Venky’s regime ever since, Rovers will continue to be run on a tight budget as the owners look for the club to run on a self-sufficient basis.
It has to be said there is nothing wrong with this approach.
If Venky’s had not upped everyone’s expectations in the first place, then this was all Rovers fans would have expected anyway.
It would be nice if, in the summer, they admit their mistakes and make public a more realistic vision, based on prudence and sense.
I won’t hold my breath.
Obviously the priority at the moment is just to keep their Premier League status, a task that was made more difficult by Tuesday night’s dramatic 3-2 loss at home to Liverpool.
But, for the long term, a lack of significant money does not necessarily mean Rovers only have constant relegation scraps to look forward to. Rovers fans distressed by their own club’s freefall over the past 18 months can surely take solace from the performance of the likes of Norwich, Swansea City and even Newcastle United this season.
The Swans and the Canaries have equipped themselves admirably in their first season in the top flight without spending much money, while Newcastle have put themselves in contention for a Champions League spot, again without spending bucket loads.
All it needs is a bit of wisdom in the transfer market, a well run football club from top to bottom and obviously a manager capable of getting the most out of his playing squad.
Rovers supporters aren’t happy with their lot in life at the moment and so they shouldn’t be.
Just because they haven’t spent loads of money does not mean they have to accept scrapping around at the bottom.
This football club has enjoyed a golden era of punching above their weight.
They have defied the financial odds through a real knowledge of football throughout the club.
That is what we want this summer.
Rovers fans aren’t expecting the world – they never were. What they are expecting is a return to the days when they were able to be proud of their club.
Hopefully Venky’s know now that money is not the be all and end all.
It is their total commitment and understanding that we are really asking for.
It was good to see the Rao brothers present at Tuesday’s home match against Liverpool, and that is a step in the right direction.
To continue to show they are in it for the long term, they must be a more regular presence at games.
And if they do get a Premier League second chance – or third – it is vital they start listening and take it.

We are down (2/5 on)!
It will be back to the days of the 70s and 80s and maybe we wont see top flight football for another 50 years.
Absolutly gutted!
I honestly hate these owners with a passion and hope some how something changes.
I wont hold my breath (hope they do)!

I'm afraid the only way is a parting of the ways.
Mr Cryer, you have never put these people under any form of pressure since day one,in seeking the truth from them.
I would like to know how much of their own money has in fact been spent in order to buy the club ?
It would appear that the income received has been used to pay off their debt and not the clubs. If this be the case the club will run out of money and there will be no more playing assest to be sold.
Yes the club has had no investment for a few years, but that dosn't say it was punching above its weight, only that it was well run by people with knowledge.
A divorce is the only way out and I fear it will be a very nasty one at that.

You are just another tosser re-hashing the **** that the Venky's and Kean spout... I have said before and will say again... "the LT are afraid to lose the advertising revenue from Venky's, and you are afraid to ask questions in case your job comes under scrutiny..
LT, KEAN, ANDERSON, VENKY'S AND NOW CRYER... CHARLATANS.... one and all

This article articulates precisely what as been said for over 18 months by US the discerning supporters.
All this vitriol that as arisen should and could have been avoided.
In these parts we are of sound grounding and know what our rightful place is within the football world. That said we are rightly proud of our heritage, history & success's that have been borne from hard work. In short the impossible as been achieved amongst folk's who truly believe in the ethos of
BLACKBURN ROVERS FOOTBALL CLUB 1875
Going forward is never a problem for I but, it must be achieved with a realistic aim that befits OUR town BLACKBURN.
We demand that !
The very nature of these new owners along with their golden boy as, in effect, insulted, patronized & belittled an hardcore of lifelong supporters.
Blackburn Rovers supporters are historically a patient lot(although as fickle as the next supporter at times) in fact, was it not some seasons ago that BRFC supporters were voted the 'best & most passionate' ?
At your peril turn the good folk's of Blackburn & the surrounding districts against you with blather, lies and unrealistic ambitions. We work from the bottom slowly but surely rising to the top with honest endeavor and the fact we fall down due to being a victim of our unsustained success does not allow for others to attempt manipulation of the good folk of Blackburn with preposterous and wild dreams.
Give back to US the good name of BRFC competing in the football world at what ever level that maybe and never will you find a more loyal bunch to champion your cause.
6000 or 60000 it does not matter what does matter is:
Arte et labore
Just a thought ?

Nice to see a few decent Claret fans making sensible comments - cheers. Personally I'd have loved you boys to have stayed up. The Derby games were electric and what football fan wouldn't wish for that every season?
Whilst we will no doubt see the return of the oldest FL derby, unfortunately it will be in the Championship.

and we do want Owners that communicate with the fans and are there with us through thick and thin!!!
You said it was nice to see them at Ewood - you should have said about 'bloody time' and start telling us what the hell is going on behind the scenes - no Mr Cryer you are '**** footing' with your comments instead of asking pertinent questions about the running of the Club!!
There is no way back with the Venkys or the 'plank' Kean as far as I am concerned to 'hell' with the lot of them.
OUT WITH KEAN AND OUT WITH THE IGNORANT VENKYS

A simple campaign over months would have been much better than telling fans already behind the players on the pitch to shout even more. Despite all the support they have had the manager has still failed on a major scale.
Also did the LT not do a ticket promotion that ran with this campaign? Ironically on the front of the paper every day for a week, something the Kean Out editorial never received. Although no revenue would have been made from that obviously.

Yes the party sure is over for followers of Blackburn Rovers , the inept way the club as been run over the last 18 mths by the Venkys and whoever else is pitifull.
What next?
Well the Championship beckons but i fear we will go straight to the First division as did Leeds and many other once famous clubs, even bigger than ours.
The fans who were voicing their opinions over the last 18 months have been proved right , and are now voting with their feet and cheque book and staying away from Ewood Park, sure the hardcore support will still be there from the die-hard supporters , but for me to many lies and water as gone under the bridge for me to forgive these people from the sub-continent.

The "merlinrabbit" email is the true reflection of ALL supporters (apart from the 500 email-letters being received daily by Kean, of course he was "having a laugh" when he slipped that one out !!).
B, Rover is about the pride of N/E Lancashire and Venky,s are in their own world in Pune and are all things Chicken & India and tightly assed business people....NEVER the two shall meet.
The Vulture Venky,s and conman Kean have been a continuous embaressment to the club and this present outcome is no great surprise to the majority of supporters...yet one of fustration and sickness of the stomach.
They have continued to look down on the supporter and ignored the opinions of everyone...now hopingly what go,s around, comes around and the season ticket sales well reflect all that as been happening within the club since these characters arrived.

It appears that many more of our neighbour supporters are putting aside rivalry and seeing it for what it is.
Its apiece that Andy should have put out very much earlier.
Its preety well put together.
Yes BRFC supp are not asking or expecting the moon.
Yes Venkys really boobed with their wild promises.
They have acted apallingly ever since.
Will they relent hold their hands up and apologise? Like you Andy I will not hold my breath.
For me its not changed, the siblings are still playing and damaging their toy. But while this goes on big sis is ensuring no real damage is done to her cash flow.
This is the issue!
I do not believe they all are just shell shocked at the outcome and dont know what to do. In football tems yes. But in business terms - no way.

Andy works for a national newspaper group not a locally owned regional paper (that type of paper disappeared long ago).
Andy is their local sports/football correspondent but he is not a Rovers fan. (In fact even the name Rovers must be bad for him to say as he is a staunch Bristol City fan!)
I do think that he has done a good job in very difficult and very unusual circumstances.

They must know the world can see that they, with the help of Anderson and Kean, have seriously cocked up and now they need to save face.
Here's my proposition to Venkys, I'll give you £10 and you can all go back to Pune right now. You can tell the press that it makes good business sense to leave while you are ahead and blame the horrible fans for everything.
Go on, you know it makes sense.
You have traded players at a profit and cut operating costs massively. You have made some money and can now go.
You are sitting on a business that is disintegrating in front of you. Customers are voting with their feet and the gravy train slows down rapidly when you drop out of the premiership.
Please think about it, do you really want your empires name associated with such a monumental failure ?
The rebuilding will only begin when Venkys leave and true BRFC fans unite and return.
