ACCRINGTON Stanley plan to make use of their connections with Liverpool to boost the club's survival fund.

Stanley are expected to get in touch with Liverpool Football Club next to discuss the possibility of playing a team of Liverpool Legends in a bid to raise even more towards their £308,000 tax bill.

Liverpool Legends XI, including Ian Rush, Kenny Dalglish and Alan Hansen, have played numerous charity matches in the past in aid of hospitals, the Tsunami appeal and in memory of Hillsborough, among other causes.

Stanley say they are now hoping to organise a match with the Liverpool Legends team at the Crown Ground in the middle of October, but that plans are at a very early stage.

The club now have seven weeks to find the remaining cash or face going out of business.

Chief executive Rob Heys said they were also planning to approach Liverpool star Steven Gerrard, who is a good friend of Stanley goalkeeper Ian Dunbavin and who has visited Accrington to watch matches in the past.

Rob Heys said: "We've spoken to Ian about it.

"We'd be silly not to use that contact and we hope Steven might be able to help.

"We don't know yet whether that could be in terms of a signed shirt or making an appearance at something.

"But he's been to a couple of Accrington games before and I don't think he paid, so he owes us!

"If he doesn't help we'll be sending him an invoice!"
