ACCRINGTON Stanley have turned away two expressions of interest in taking over the club after concerns that they would be detrimental to the Reds’ future.

The club already have an offer on the table from the Accrington Stanley Supporters’ Fund, but are reluctant to accept it at this stage because it is dependent on a new share issue.

And since the news became public that they had eight weeks to pay off a £308,000 tax bill or face being wound up, Stanley have had a couple of tentative approaches from further interested parties.

The Reds, however, believe they may not have had the club’s best interests at heart.

Chief executive Rob Heys said: “We had a couple of expressions of interest and you always get one or two people looking to pick up struggling companies for next to nothing, but it was not something we could consider.”

Heys added that John Batchelor, who bid for Stanley 18 months ago on the proviso that the club moved to Leigh and changed its name to Lancashire United, was not one of the interested parties.
