Reds hopeful over midfield pair

ACCRINGTON Stanley have still not given up hope of tying midfield duo Charlie Barnett and Bryan Hughes to new deals at the club.

Barnett and Hughes were both offered contracts at the end of last season but are yet to agree terms with Stanley.

The Reds have been hoping to retain the duo to maintain stability in midfield and assistant boss Leam Richardson says dialogue will continue, with pre-season training due to start next week.

“We’ll be speaking to both of them again after their holidays,” Richardson said.

“But of course it has to be right for the club and for the player.”

Stanley have previously stressed that they will also look at other options, if further time passes with terms unable to be agreed.

Will Hatfield has already put pen to paper on a new deal but Sean Hessey opted to leave.

Stanley’s League Two match at Wycombe has been brought forward 24 hours to Good Friday, March 29 at 3pm.

Former Reds keeper Kenny Arthur has joined Scottish Second Division side Airdrie, while ex-Stanley defender Andrew Owens has quit Southport and joined Mansfield.

I hope both players stay at Stanley, particularly Hughes who would be a great asset in bringing along some of the young midfielders tha have been signed. Barnett left it late last year before re-signing so he's probably waiting for any better offers.
