Football League fixtures 2012/13: Dates set for derby day

THE biggest game in the East Lancashire football calendar between old rivals Burnley and Blackburn Rovers will take place on Saturday, December 1 as the two sides prepare for the Championship season.

Following Rovers relegation from the Premier League derby day has been eagerly anticipated across the area and the pre-Christmas Turf Moor showdown - the 94th meeting of the sides - is certain to attract a full house.

The rematch will take place at Ewood Park on March 16, 2013.

Rovers begin life in the Championship at Ipswich Town as the season kicks off on August 18, while they go to Leeds on September 1.

They entertain Bolton on November 28 and travel to Middlesbrough on Boxing Day, while Nottingham Forest are at Ewood Park on New Year’s Day.

Rovers finish their campaign at Birmingham City on May 4, 2013.

Burnley kick off their campaign with a Turf Moor showdown with former boss Owen Coyle as Bolton come to town on August 18, while they host Blackpool on October 20.

The festive period sees Derby County at Turf Moor on Boxing Day, while the Clarets cross the Pennines to Sheffield Wednesday on New Year’s Day.

The trip to Bloomfield Road takes place on April 13, while Burnley’s final game of the season is at home to Ipswich on May 4.

In League Two Accrington Stanley kick off their season at Southend United on August 18, while ex-boss John Coleman visits the Crown Ground with his Rochdale on October 6.

The Reds go to Morecambe on November 6 and visit league new boys Fleetwood on November 20. They are at Bradford on Boxing Day and entertain Chesterfield on New Year’s Day with the season ending at home to Oxford on April 27.
