ACCRINGTON Stanley have been crowned League Two champions, thanks to a 1-0 win over play-off hopefuls Lincoln City at the Wham Stadium, in front a new club record home crowd of 4,753.

Jordan Clark’s ninth goal of the season fired the club to its inaugural Football League title, just over two weeks after promotion was achieved with a home win over Yeovil Town.

Clark pounced in the 35th minute after good work by Sean McConville in the build-up.

And the result could have been even more comfortable, after captain Seamus Conneely won a penalty before the break.

Top scorer Billy Kee stepped up and looked certain to score his 27th goal of the season, but goalkeeper Ryan Allsop dived low to his right and managed to make the save.

A physical Lincoln threatened Stanley’s goalmouth more in the second half, but goalkeeper Aaron Chapman and his back four were a match for what the Imps had to throw at them.

And the Reds had chances to double their advantage, notably through midfielder Scott Brown and the lively Kayden Jackson.

But Clark’s first half goal proved enough to secure the silverware.
