ACCRINGTON Stanley will have to wait to secure promotion from League Two after the Reds shared the spoils with Exeter City in an entertaining 1-1 draw at the Wham Stadium.

Victory would have ensured John Coleman’s side a place in League One but the champagne remains on ice for the Reds who stayed on top of the table.

It was the visitors who struck first as Jayden Stockley finished smartly into the top corner after Aaron Chapman had denied Matt Jay.

But the home side were back on level terms before the break when Kayden Jackson fired home eight minutes before the interval.

The Reds had the better of the second half with Jackson to the fore but Coleman’s men couldn’t find the breakthrough against a Grecians side who are also in contention for a top three finish.

Jackson, Jordan Clark and Callum Johnson all had chances while Exeter remained a threat on the counter attack but in the end both sides had to settle for a point.

Stanley will get another chance to secure promotion against Yeovil on Tuesday night where a win will earn a spot in League One.
