SEAN McConville insists winning promotion to League One with Accrington Stanley would be the 'biggest achievement of his career' as the Reds gear up for their weekend clash with Exeter City.

John Coleman's side are three points clear at the top and a victory over the fourth placed Grecians will ensure a top three finish in League Two.

And McConville, who has been a standout performer for Stanley this season with his performances earning him a spot in the fourth tier team of the year, is desperate to finish the job and then target the title.

"Promotion would be the best achievement in my career by a country mile, I think for most of the lads it will be," said the midfielder who has made more than 200 appearances for the club in two spells.

"To come in and believe you could do something at the start of the year to then go and achieve it would be outstanding and it is a big effort involved by everyone at the club and not just the players.

"We are close mathematically to doing it. We have been fantastic on this run and we want to keep it going and get that P next to our name and once we get that then look at winning the league.

"Winning the league would be the cherry on top, no-one expected us to do it and you have the bigger teams who strive to win the league with bigger budgets. We are chipping away and hopefully we can go on and lift the league trophy."

The Reds have won 15 of their last 17 matches to surge to the brink of promotion and when asked to put his finger on the renaissance the 29-year-old pointed to hard work and a winning mentality.

"I think confidence has got a lot to do with it," he added. "We had a bad run just before Christmas and we questioned ourselves and got out of it through hard work and this run we are on has just snowballed.

"Once you are on a run it is easy to stay on it but it is hard to get on the run.

"We are chalking off wins at the minute and going into games fully expecting to win and one you are in the mindset you very rarely get beat.

"It is the same when you are losing games and you can think that we are not going to get another win here and nothing comes off. But when you are winning games you feel as though you have only got to turn up and you'll win and that is how we feel at the moment."
