ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman revealed that goalkeeper Aaron Chapman missed the Reds 1-0 win over Notts County as a precaution having been in a traffic accident.

Chapman, a near ever present for Accrington this term, was replaced by Jonny Maxted who came in for his debut having joined the club in the January transfer window from non-league Guiseley.

He kept a clean sheet as the Reds moved closer to promotion with their ninth straight League Two home win which kept them three points clear at the top.

And Coleman said he hoped Chapman would return to training this week ahead of Saturday's trip to Colchester United.

Speaking after the win over Notts County the Reds boss said: "He went to hospital as a precaution having been in a traffic accident.

"We don't know the full details. We found that out at 1pm so we had to make changes but I thought Jonny acquitted himself really well."

Asked if the news of Chapman's unavailability hit the squad ahead of kick off, the Reds boss said: "I think it probably does because they are a very close knit squad and first and foremost you are concerned about his welfare.

"It was a blow for us and hopefully he will be right and be back in training this week."
