CONFIDENCE is flowing through the Stanley ranks and Jordan Clark insists the Reds feel close to unbeatable as they edge towards the promised land of League One.

Clark showed plenty of belief in scoring a magnificent winner against Forest Green Rovers at the weekend to help move Stanley three points clear at the top of the table.

That extended the Reds remarkable recent run to 12 wins in 14 League Two fixtures, with Stanley's haul of 37 points from a possible 42 since Boxing Day handing them an eight-point cushion in the automatic promotion places.

"We’re going into the games now with so much confidence that we don’t feel like we’re going to lose, which is brilliant," said Clark, who netted his eighth goal of the campaign on Saturday.

“When you’re on a bad run you go into games thinking it’s not going to be your day again.

“We’ve got to get ourselves up for every game now with nine games to go."

Clark set his sights on hitting double figures for goals at the start of the season, a tally he is now closing in on.

But the 24-year-old would be more than happy to forego any further strikes if it meant promotion and he revealed the Reds are now targeting the title.

“I’m happy with my contributions and I’ve just got to keep it going. Like I said at the start of the season, my target is 10 – I’m on eight now, so I’m not far away with nine games to go," said Clark.

"But I wouldn’t be bothered if I didn’t score again and we get promoted and win the league.

"Of course our main aim is still to get as clear from fourth place as we can, but we are starting to pull away from Luton a little bit. We have the game in hand so I think that we have to be looking towards winning the league now."

Clark's goal at the Wham Stadium against Rovers was certainly a memorable one, with the former Shrewsbury Town man picking up the ball on halfway before skipping past a couple of challenges and slotting home.

“When I first picked up the ball on the halfway line, I was feeling tired to be honest," he said.

"I was running towards the corner and it just opened up, I came inside and I was looking for a pass to Billy (Kee) or Kayden (Jackson) in the middle.

“I saw that the defenders had got tight to them, so I continued further and ended up one-on-one with the goalkeeper and decided to slide it through his legs.

“It had been a really tough game and we knew that it was going to be – Forest Green are good side and they’ve proven that twice against us this season. Thankfully that second goal settled us down and we were able to kick on from there.”
