JOHN Coleman believes Billy Kee’s impressive season should lead to an international call-up.

The Reds striker tops the League Two scoring charts with 18 and has hit eight in his last nine matches ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Coventry City.

And it is form that Coleman thinks should be recognised by Northern Ireland.

Kee was capped at Under-19 and Under-21 level and was called into a senior squad in 2009 but has yet to win a cap. QPR frontman Conor Washington led the line in Michael O’Neill’s side play-off clash with Switzerland in November while Charlton’s Josh Magennis, Cardiff’s Jamie Ward and Hearts’ Kyle Lafferty are ahead of Kee in the queue.

But Shay McCartan, who starred for Stanley in the second half of last season, saw that form rewarded with a Northern Ireland call and Coleman believes Kee could follow suit.

“I hope so,” the Reds boss told the Lancashire Telegraph of Kee’s chances. “I was speaking to one of the coaches at the Notts County game the other week and I was telling him what he was doing.

“If he is good enough he should be picked and I think he is good enough.”
