ACCRINGTON Stanley have completed the signing of Fleetwood's Harvey Rodgers.

The defender has penned a two-and-a-half year deal and joins for an undisclosed fee.

Rodgers rejoins the club for a second spell having spent time on loan at the Wham Stadium in 2017.

He made 19 appearances for the Reds in the second half of the 2016-17 season, scoring once, during a loan spell from Hull City.

He was released by the Tigers in the summer and subsequently joined Fleetwood but has struggled for first team opportunities at Highbury and was sent off on his debut against Southend in the EFL Cup.

The 21-year-old was mainly utilised as a full back during his last spell in East Lancashire and provides further defensive options for Reds boss John Coleman.

Rodgers could make his second debut for the club in Saturday’s League Two home game with Stevenage.

“I am buzzing to be back,” said Rodgers. “I loved every minute of my time at Accrington, it was my first club away from Hull so it was special.

“Thankfully Accrington are in a higher position than they were last season when I joined them. I think they were in the bottom three or four.

“Now they are pushing for promotion and I want to play my part in helping them get into League One. I can’t wait to get started again.

“It didn’t work out at Fleetwood, I didn’t get off to the best starts with being sent off on my debut, but you learn from it.”

Stanley boss Coleman is pleased to capture the defender.

He said: "We are delighted to sign Harvey.

"We wanted to sign him at the end of last season but he opted to go to Fleetwood.

“He is someone we have kept tabs on since then as we know what a strong defender he is and thankfully the two clubs have been able to do a deal.

“We felt we had room for one more signing in our squad and this is a very strong addition.”
