MALLIK Wilks admits it has been a whirlwind start to life at Accrington Stanley but insists he wouldn't have it any other way.

The frontman signed on loan from Championship club Leeds United on Thursday and came off the bench to score a last minute equaliser for his new club in the dramatic 2-2 draw at Notts County on Friday night.

That came after the 18-year-old was sent on by Reds boss John Coleman as a wing back with Stanley chasing the game and short on options following Mekhi McLeod's red card and Ben Richards-Everton being stretchered off injured.

But Wilks was delighted to get in on the action and even more thrilled to get off the mark on his debut.

"“It’s been a crazy 24 hours for me,” said the teenager after Friday night's clash.

“I’ve had one training session here so to come on in such a big game and score the equaliser is an amazing feeling.

“I said I was here to score goals and I hope I can get more and help to keep the team towards the top of the table."

Of his goal, he added: "It’s a dream come true. “It’s every boys dream to do that on their debut and I’ve come on and managed it.

“The boss put me on as a wing back and just told me to get up there and get at their full backs because they were tiring.

“That’s what I did and I arrived in the box, the ball just sat up nicely for me at the back post and thankfully I put it away.”

The point in Nottinghamshire means Stanley sit sixth in the early season table ahead of the derby trip to Morecambe on Saturday.

And Wilks, who will be pushing for a start against the Shrimps, is hoping for more away day joy having dedicated his late strike on Friday to the 154 travelling fans.

“The fans were amazing,” Wilkes told Stanley's official website. “I was so happy to celebrate my goal in front of them, it’s a really big family here and they created a great atmosphere for us.”
