ACCRINGTON Stanley have announced the loan signing of Leeds United attacker Mallik Wilks on loan.

The teenager will boost John Coleman’s attacking options and he could make his debut in tomorrow night’s trip to Notts County having trained with his team-mates for the first time today.

Wilks completed the move to the Wham Stadium after penning a 12 month extension to his contract at Elland Road which will now run until 2019.

The 18-year-old made his debut for Leeds in January, coming off the bench in the FA Cup fourth round tie with Sutton United, having also featured on the bench for the first-team.

His spell with Stanley will be his first taste of Football League action, and Wilks is looking forward to the opportunity which has been presented to him.

“I’m here to play games, score goals and help the club fight for promotion,” said Wilks.

“Accrington is a club with great league history and I hope that I can add my name to that history.

“I’ve been at Leeds since I was 15, this is my first loan spell and I am excited to get going and make that step up from development squad football to senior league football.”

Stanley have started the season well, with two wins from their three league games, having also knocked Preston out of the Carabao Cup earlier this month.

They will look to bounce back after defeat to Premier League West Brom on Tuesday, when they travel to Meadow Lane tomorrow.

And boss John Coleman, who has had success in the past with loan recruits, was delighted to secure Wilks’ services.

“Mallik comes here with a big reputation from Leeds, we’ve seen young lads come here on loan and set their career alight, hopefully he can do the same,” he told the club’s official website.

“He’s a level-headed boy and I’m looking forward to working with him, it was ideal for him to come here as I felt we needed more cover in that position and he needed senior football, it suits both parties well.”
