BLACKBURN Rovers could face an East Lancashire derby with Accrington Stanley when the draw for the first round of the Carabao Cup is made on Friday.

Tony Mowbray's men are a seeded side in the regionalised draw and cannot face a Championship club.

But they could come up against Stanley while Gary Bowyer's League One newcomers Blackpool and Mowbray's former side Coventry City are also possible opponents.

The competition has been rebranded the Carabao Cup after a three-year deal with energy drink firm Carabao with the draw being made in Thailand, the home of the title sponsor.

Seventy clubs will be in the draw with all Premier League sides, including Burnley, joining in round two along with Championship newcomers Middlesbrough and Hull City.

Sunderland are in the hat for the first round and are one of Stanley's possible opponents, as are Bolton Wanderers and John Coleman's former side Rochdale.

First round ties are scheduled to take place the week beginning August 7, with the new Football League season under way on Saturday, August 5.

Both Rovers and Stanley will find out their league fixtures when they are released on Wednesday, June 21.
