ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman was delighted with his side's final day performance as they brushed aside play-off chasing Stevenage.

Three second half goals, two from the penalty spot, saw the Reds record a 3-0 win at Broadhall Way.

The result meant that Stanley finished 13th in the final League Two table while Stevenage ended the campaign 10th, missing out on the top seven by three points.

And Coleman was delighted to see his side finish with a flourish, a year on from their agonising 0-0 home draw with the same opponents which cost them automatic promotion to League One.

"We showed a lot of spirit and a lot of heart," said the Reds boss. "There was some fantastic football and with the chances we created you would think we were the team that needed to win the game.

"Everyone was talking about us wanting to do what they did to us and stop them going into the play offs. If we had drawn and kept them out of the play offs I would have been sick.

"We came here to win the game and not to put Stevenage anywhere. To be honest I don't care about Stevenage, I care about my own team.

"I thought we were fantastic from the first minute to the last.

"The players gave it their all and it looked like it was going to be another one of those days when we were going to do minate and not take our chances but we kept plugging away and got our just rewards. It's just a pity it was 12 months too late."

Stanley's opening goal came when Shay McCartan went down in the box and Billy Kee scored from the spot.

The decision was contested by the home players but Coleman said the right call was made.

"He (McCartan) has wrong footed the lad. You cannot defend your defender for dangling a leg in an area like that it is like dipping your foot in a pool of crocodiles - you have to expect it to be bitten off.

"It is bad play by the their defender and good play by our attacker to wrong foot him.

"If their defender wants to dangle his leg and bring him down then it is a penalty.

"They can't have any cause for complaint. And they certainly can't have any cause for complaint over the whole of the game because there was only team in it."
