ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman wants his side to be League Two flag-bearers in this season’s FA Cup.

Stanley’s tie with Luton is the only all League Two clash and as such guarantees the fourth tier a representative in Monday night’s fourth round draw.

And Coleman wants to make sure it is the Reds who are in the hat.

“We want to be that League Two club,” he said. “Luton are a good side, they are above us in the table so that tells you they have been doing things more correct than we have this season.

“We know our form is quite good even if the results haven’t been. We know we have been playing quite well.

“They say the league table doesn’t lie but I want to make an exception on this occasion because there is no way we should be at the bottom.

“We need to get better results, we know that, but our improvements won’t have to improve that much to get those results.”

The Reds lost 1-0 at Luton in early November but Coleman believes his players can take heart from that performance.

He added: “They had three good chances in the game and their fans will remember them because our goalkeeper made some really good saves and they hit the crossbar.

“We controlled the game for 80 minutes. It is all about scoring goals and we didn’t on that occasion.

“We have got to believe that we can beat them based on they way we played in that game and the way we have been playing of late.”

Cameron McGeehan scored the winner for the Hatters on that occasion but Luton’s influential playmaker, who has 11 goals this season, will not feature at the Wham Stadium after breaking his leg against Portsmouth last time out.

And Coleman believes Luton will miss the 21-year-old’s influence.

“Players like him who are very, very good can have an impact on their teammates not just for what they do but for the confidence they bring,” said the Reds boss.

“I take no pleasure from the fact that he is not going to be playing against us because I always want to pit my wits against the better teams and players.

“I feel for their manager not being able to put out the strongest side and I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

“I am sure they have other good players who they can bring in.”
