ACCRINGTON Stanley will be able to call on defender Mark Hughes for the League Two clash with Yeovil Town tomorrow after the club successfully appealed his midweek red card in the 2-0 defeat at Hartlepool.

The Reds ace was controversially dismissed by referee Richard Clark who judged that Hughes had denied Padraig Amond a goalscoring opportunity.

He also gave a penalty to Hartlepool which was initially saved by Elliot Parish only for Nicky Deverdics to convert the rebound.

Hughes was cleared by an FA Regulatory Commission on Thursday afternoon and is set to feature for John Coleman's side on Saturday.

“It was a no brainer to appeal,” said the Reds boss. “A decision was made for the denial of a goalscoring opportunity and the player was nowhere near the ball and had no chance of ever getting to the ball.

“A few top refs who have watched it with me have agreed that they don’t think it’s a foul. We can only say that it’s an unfortunate error."

Matty Pearson returns from suspension but fellow defender Janoi Donacien remains sidelined through injury.
