GOALKEEPER Jack Little was the hero for Accrington Stanley as the Reds booked a third round tie at Shrewsbury Town in the FA Youth Cup with a penalty shoot-out win over Morecambe.

Little saved a penalty in the 4-2 spot kick win having earlier made a string of fine saves in extra time to keep the scores level.

Stanley took the lead at the Globe Arena in the 10th minute when Joe Rathbone scored from 40 yards but the hosts levelled midway through the half when Kyle Hawley tapped home.

The Shrimps turned the tie around four minutes after the break thanks to Steve Yawson's curling effort but the Reds, and Rathbone struck back when the Stanley man converted a 60th minute penalty after a foul on Harry Blackburn.

Stanley stopper Little came to the fore in extra time as he twice denied Hawley in the first period before producing a fine save to keep out Yawson's effort with Hawley crashing the rebound against the bar/

The Reds nearly won it at the death when a shot was cleared off the line but it took penalties to separate the Lancashire rivals with Morecambe seeing one spot kick fly over the bar before Little intervened, allowing Harry Waterhouse to convert the winning kick and send Stanley through to round three.

A date for the tie at League One side Shrewsbury has yet to be confirmed.
