GARY Taylor-Fletcher is looking forward to a rare new experience this weekend after committing his short-term future to Accrington Stanley.

The 35-year-old has penned a deal until January and Saturday’s trip to Crawley will leave him just four short of playing at all 92 Premier League and Football League grounds.

But the ex-Blackpool forward, who made his league debut for the Reds against his former side on Saturday, is determined to help fire Stanley closer to the promotion they so narrowly missed out on last season.

The dramatic 2-1 victory over the Seasiders moved John Coleman’s side into seventh and Taylor-Fletcher is convinced they are even better than that.

“The gaffer and Jimmy (Bell) have got all the lads together. It’s a great little club and it’s great to be here after the last few years where I have not been playing regularly,” he said.

“I just want to relax and be myself and try and help the other players with my experience.

“The last few clubs I have been at, I have done a bit of coaching as well as playing but here I am just concentrating on playing.

“From what I have seen here, we should be a lot higher than seventh in the league. It’s a good strong squad which should be able to compete at this level and compete at the level above.”

Plying his trade in the fourth tier is nothing new for Taylor-Fletcher, who began his career in non-league and worked his way up to the Premier League, and he is looking forward to a first visit to the Broadfield Stadium.

“In League Two, teams are strong and organised and quite direct, the way we play we shouldn’t see any problems in this division,” he said.

“There are five clubs I need to tick off – and Crawley is one of them.

“I started my career in the Conference and worked my way up so I am used to playing in the lower division grounds.

“My family came to Accrington on Saturday and they loved it as they said it was like I first started out on my journey.”

Stanley have been drawn away at Bradford City in the FA Cup first round.

The tie will be played at Valley Parade over the weekend of November 5 and 6.
