ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman admitted his Reds side didn’t deserve the three points from their Lancashire derby with Blackpool, but he was pleased to be on the right side of fortune.

Coleman has felt on several occasions this season that lady luck has not been smiling on Stanley but that certainly wasn’t the case at the Wham Stadium on Saturday.

Trailing 1-0 heading into the 89th minute, a Rommy Boco double, the first coming from a controversial penalty, turned the game on its head and sent Stanley into the play-off places.

And, having seen his side miss two injury time penalties at Cambridge earlier this month when Terry Gornell and Chris Eagles were denied, Coleman was pleased to see Boco’s effort find the net.

“Thankfully we had ironed out the process of penalty takers so Rommy was always going to take it,” said the Reds boss who saw his side fall behind on 81 minutes to a Michael Cain free kick.

“We were very lucky. Blackpool were better than us and played the better football.

“In the second half we gave the ball away cheaply. They were better all round and made more chances. They were unlucky to leave the ground with nothing. Having said that we have done that plenty of times so I know that it feels like.

“We have had absolutely zero luck so perhaps we were due some.”

And Coleman now wants Stanley to kick on from the last-gasp victory and close the gap on the League Two top three.

“We have got to use that as a springboard because we are in the play-off places.

“We showed a bit of character - that has to be pointed out. We didn’t settle for the point which is pleasing.

“The best way of winning games is to play well and we have got to play better than what we did.”

Coleman threw on Boco and former Blackpool man Gary Taylor-Fletcher as well as forward Shay McCartan in search of an equaliser in the second half and the Reds boss admitted his striking choices from the bench bode well for the rest of the campaign.

“We have got good attacking options,” he added. “We have got strength in depth and we are going to need it throughout the season.”
