ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman has challenged his side to keep their place in the top three of League Two after climbing into the automatic promotion places for the first time this season with a 2-0 win at Luton Town.

The Reds' win coupled with a defeat for Plymouth and a draw for Bristol Rovers at Northampton - who celebrated promotion - saw Coleman's side climb two places.

Indeed Stanley are now just two points behind second-placed Oxford with five games remaining.

And Coleman wants his side to ensure they stay the course of the promotion race after second half goals from Scott Brown and Terry Gornell earned them the win at Luton.

“We’ve always said we want to get into the top three and not the next job is to stay there,” said Coleman.

“That in itself will pose problems. There are some great teams below us now and a couple of great teams above us and we class ourselves as a great team so there’s still a lot to play for.

“Nothing’s been decided today and I must compliment Luton who played their part in a cracking game. I think it was a great advert for League Two football and on another day they could have gone into half time 2-0 up.

“They took the game to us and it was an open game. At times it was backs to the wall for us but we stood firm and I thought we defended really well in the second half.

“I thought it was a good counter attacking performance and for the last 15 minutes we managed to force Luton back which is testament to how well our players played.”
