ACCRINGTON Stanley midfielder Sean McConville believes the transfer business done by Reds' boss John Coleman can play a crucial role in helping the club to League Two promotion.

Coleman added defender Mark Hughes, midfielder Scott Brown and frontman Rommy Boco in the final few days of the transfer window.

And McConville, who scored the winner as Stanley defeated Bristol Rovers 1-0 to climb to fifth in the table on Saturday, insists the greater strength in depth will be a huge asset to the Reds in the final few months of the season.

Stanley have seen several games called off due to the wet and cold weather and have as many as four matches in hand on sides above them.

McConville is relishing the extra competition.

After Saturday’s game he said: “Any help that Scott, Mark and Rommy can give to us will be needed because we have got a lot of Saturday and Tuesday games coming up.

“It will be tough and changes will be need to be made to rest players come March and April when the games come thick and fast.

“With the players we have added we have brought in that experience that can help a couple of the younger lads.”

McConville, who signed a new two-and-a-half year contract extension last month, also believes the weekend win over top-three rivals Bristol Rovers is a statement of promotion intent from the Reds.

“It is a massive statement," said the 26-year-old. “The gaffer said that is our biggest win of the season and I would agree with him because it puts us one or two points behind Bristol Rovers with four games in hand.

“We are only looking at the automatic promotion spots because I believe we have a team that should be in the top three in this league.”

And McConville was pleased to get on the scoresheet — even if his winner was an intended cross.

“It was a cross,” he said. “I have had a lot of chances recently and I keep thinking to myself that it is not going to come but then it comes from one that was meant to be a cross.

“They (goals) do come like buses and I do tend to score in spells throughout my career and add two, three and four and kick on and get to double figures as quickly as possible.”

The only movement at the Wham Stadium on transfer deadline day was the departure of youngster Liam Goulding who joined Marine on loan.

The 19-year-old spent time on loan with National League North side Chorley earlier this season and will now link up with the Evo-Stik Premier Division side for the next month, with Marine currently in the relegation zone.
