JOHN Coleman expects more of his promotion chasing Accrington Stanley squad to sign new contracts after Sean McConville became the second player in a month to pen a long-term deal.

The 26-year-old joined defender Matty Pearson is signing until the summer of 2018, and Coleman doesn't think they will be the last as the Reds continue to demonstrate their ambition under new majority shareholder Andy Holt.

McConville returned to the Wham Stadium for a second spell this summer, signing from Chester, and he has become a regular fixture in Coleman's side.

And McConville, who made 89 Stanley appearances in his first spell at the club, is delighted to have his future sorted out.

"The fans have been great with me,” he said. “There were a few murmurs when I came back but they’ve been first class with me since I came back through the door really and I thank them for that.

"I’m pleased to have played regularly this season. Goals and assists are a plus but the most important thing is working hard for the shirt and I think I’ve done that. I’m happy that this new contract is there as a bit of a reward."

McConville has scored five goals in 28 games this season, and Reds boss John Coleman has been delighted with his performances since returning to the club.

"Sean’s been fantastic since he came back," said Coleman. "He’s getting into good areas, making a big contribution and getting plenty of chances.

"I’m really pleased to have him here for another two and a half years and he won’t be the last to sign up. We expect a few more to be putting pen to paper over the coming weeks."
