And the latest venture saw four supporters push their pedals for an impressive 47 miles as they made their way to Morecambe FC’s Globe Arena before Saturday’s League Two clash.

Richard Holden, Mark Brennan, Mark Lonsdale and Daniel Bates set off at 8.30am from Stanley’s home ground and arrived in time to see John Coleman’s side kick-off against the Shrimps at 3pm.

And even though their side went down to a narrow 1-0 defeat, the efforts off the pitch were appreciated.

Nick Westwell, chairman of the Official Accrington Stanley Supporters’ Club which is organising the fundraising, said: “Stanley’s changing rooms are in a shocking state and desperately need work doing to them.

“Malcom Isherwood came up with the idea of doing a sponsored bike ride to an away match”

Accrington chairman Peter Marsden said: “A big thank you to the lads for their efforts . It shows how much our supporters care and it would have been nice to reward them with three points, but sadly we were left punctured.”

Life-long Reds fan, former England cricket coach and Sky Sports pundit David Lloyd said: “Stanley has been my life since I was seven, but we need to bring it up to date. The players need better facilities.”
