ACCRINGTON Stanley new boy Tom Davies wants to channel his 2013-14 form as he aims to hit the ground running come August.

Davies has penned a one-year contract at the Store First Stadium following his release from Fleetwood and the 23-year-old, who earned his move to the Cod Army after impressing for FC United two seasons ago, is determined to make an impression for the Reds.

The centre back, who spent time on loan with Conference clubs Southport, Alfreton and Lincoln last season, is Stanley boss John Coleman’s first summer signing and he is keen to get back to his 2014 best.

“That was a whirlwind season for me because it was just on the up,” said Davies.

“I was playing well and the team was doing well.

“If I can recapture the form and the enjoyment I had in my football when I was there then I will be happy at Accrington and playing good football.

“I feel that if I do have a full pre-season then hopefully I can show the club, the manager and the fans what I can do.

“Hopefully I can show what I can do in pre-season and then start the season with a bang.”

Davies believes his experience in the Conference last season will help him settle into League Two football as he eyes his Football League debut.

He said: “It didn’t work out for me at Fleetwood. I went on loan to the Conference and played a good number of games.

“Last season was almost a stepping stone for me to get some games in the Conference after being lower down the non-league pyramid.

“This is going to be the highest level I have played at and hopefully I can do well this season for Accrington.”

And Davies believes Stanley have the makings of a strong squad, despite seeing experienced trio Luke Joyce, Nicky Hunt and Rob Atkinson depart the club in recent weeks.

Davies added: “The manager said that he wants a young hungry squad and I fit the bill and that is why I am here.

“I think if we can move on together as a team then we will be absolutely fine and we will have a good season.

“It is an exciting time and I am really happy to be here.”
