STANLEY boss John Coleman is sweating on the fitness of Terry Gornell ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Luton Town.

The 25-year-old has played a key part in Stanley’s recent revival, but is struggling to shake of a foot injury he picked up in Tuesday’s win over table-topping Burton.

“He’s struggling with his foot, it will just be a waiting game to see if he recovers in time,” said Coleman, who is also waiting for news on a scan on Nicky Hunt’s troublesome groin.

“It would be a huge blow (to lose Gornell), but you can’t just be reliant on one player. We’ve got good players who are ready to come in and do a job.

“We’ve got a strong bench now, not that we haven’t had in the past, but we’ve got competition for places all over the park and that’s the sign of a healthy squad.”

If Gornell misses out it could mean a return to the bench for James Gray, who has not been involved since rejecting a loan move to Southport.

“He’s part of the squad,” said Coleman. “There’s no hidden agenda, there’s no personality clashes at all, and when his chance comes he has to grab it with both hands.”
