ACCRINGTON Stanley goalkeeper Scott Davies says the Reds cannot get carried away by their 2-1 win at Southend United on Saturday.

John Coleman’s side became the first away team to win at Roots Hall in League Two since the start of October as the unpredictability of the division made itself evident.

“I think somebody said we were 6/1 to win but on any given day in this league anyone can beat anyone. I don’t think there is much difference between the bottom and the top,” said the man on loan from Fleetwood Town.

“If we can get a few more results like this then we will be pushing for the play-offs - that’s how quickly this league can change.

“We went back to basics on Tuesday night and got the right result. You could see the confidence that it brought to the whole group and to come away from Southend with three points was fantastic.

“It’s a step in the right direction.”

A home clash with relegation-threatened and managerless Cheltenham Town on Friday night presents a different challenge from play-off chasing Southend for Stanley. Davies said: “We have to keep our feet on the ground because we’ll be the favourites against Cheltenham.

“We have to make sure that we stick to the same principles which have brought us the two wins in the last week.

“It’s not just about getting two good results, it’s about getting nine or10 good results.”

After keeping a clean sheet in the 1-0 win against Oxford United, Davies was visibly frustrated at conceding what proved to be a consolation to Barry Corr on Saturday afternoon but says it is just part of his character.

“I like to keep clean sheets because I don’t like to concede goals,” said Stanley’s eighth keeper of the season.

“But I’ve only conceded two goals in three games and we’ve taken six points from nine.

“I was delighted to get a clean sheet against Oxford and would have liked another one on Saturday. Barry Corr seems to score that goal against me whenever I come up against him!”
