STANLEY assistant manager Jimmy Bell has challenged the Reds to get the town buzzing as they continue to chase a play-off place.

John Coleman’s side are seeking a fourth straight home win tomorrow, with Cambridge United the visitors to the Store First Stadium.

But despite their impressive home form attracting fans through the turnstiles remains a challenge for Stanley.

Only 947 saw them beat Hartlepool 3-1, and while 1,710 were at the Lancashire derby with Morecambe, the FA Cup replay victory over League One Notts County attracted a crowd of 1,026.

“We need to win games because that gets the town buzzing,” admits Bell.

“It’s not ‘oh Accrington are playing well, but they drew or get beat’, we have to win games as well, we have to put a run together, another three or four games, get ourselves knocking on the play-offs, and get the town buzzing again.

“We have to try and get them back in because we haven’t got enough fans coming through the door at the minute, so this cup run was vital to us, and until we start winning three or four games and get another three, four of five hundred people through the gate we need these cup runs.

“I urge this town to get behind the lads, they really appreciate the fans and the town’s backing, so it goes hand in hand, we need them, we really do need them, we need them to come and watch us.”

Bell believes there is plenty on offer at the Store First Stadium to encourage supporters to part with their cash.

Since he and Coleman returned to the club Stanley have won six of their 11 games and are now just five points off the play-offs.

“I think we’ve served up a good brand of football and a brand of football that I know this town likes,” said Bell.

“A good attacking brand, never say die, and I think that’s what Accrington is about.

“I know when we play at home it is very special to the lads, we need that crowd behind us and we need bums on seats, when that happens and they make a buzz about the place it really does inspire the lads.”

Despite being 15th in the table Bell still believes the play-offs are firmly in sight for the Reds.

“I remember when we made the play-offs in 2010/11, I think we were about 17th at this time of the year with a couple of games in hand because of the cup run.

“I think we won four or five games and all of a sudden we were in the play-offs, and once you’re in the play-offs you strive to stay in there.

“That’s our aim, I think we’re only five points of Southend with a couple of home games coming up, and once we get in there, which I think we can do, I fully believe that we will stay in there.”
