ACCRINGTON Stanley have received more than 100 applications to become their next manager.

But it is understood that Blackburn Rovers midfielder David Dunn is not in for the job.

There have been reports that the Rovers fans’ favourite, 34, is under consideration to become James Beattie’s successor and that he would be open to the idea of a player-manager role.

Dunn has the qualifications to take on the position.

But, as was the case in the summer when he was linked with the vacant Rovers U21s coach role, Dunn’s immediate aim is to prolong a playing career in which he has made 369 appearances and scored 59 goals for his hometown club.

The former England international, who missed Rovers’ 3-1 win over Wigan Athletic on Saturday with a knee injury, does want to move into coaching once he hangs up his boots.

He has completed his UEFA A and B Licences and is ready to undertake his Pro Licence.

But Dunn remains determined to continue playing and help Rovers in their attempts to win a place back in the Premier League.

Stanley were rocked on Friday when Beattie, their boss of 16 months, had his contract with the club terminated by mutual consent.

Reds skipper Luke Joyce said after hearing the news: “I just didn’t expect it whatsoever after the win last weekend and recent performances.

“The lads are devastated because a lot of us played with the gaffer and class him as a friend and he’s done great for us and the lads have really enjoyed playing for him.”

The following afternoon Joyce and his team-mates picked themselves up as Stanley, led by caretaker-manager Paul Stephenson, won 1-0 at home to AFC Wimbledon.
