ACCRINGTON Stanley start the new League Two season with a home game against last season’s play-off semi-finalists Southend United and also face three of the pre-season title favourites in a tough opening month.
James Beattie’s side host the Shrimpers on the opening weekend of August 9 and visit Cheltenham Town for their first away match of the season on August 16.
The Reds then visit relegated Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday, August 19, before hosting newly promoted Luton Town on August 23 ahead of a trip to Gigg Lane to take on Bury on August 30. All three of those sides are well fancied for promotion by the bookmakers.
Stanley’s first Lancashire derby of the season against Morecambe is on November 1 at the Store First Stadium with the return fixture on April 4.
Beattie’s boys travel to York City on Boxing Day and also have festive home fixtures with Wycombe (December 20) and last season’s beaten play-off finalists Burton (December 28).
Accrington end the season at home to Mansfield on May 2.
All fixtures are subject to change.
