ACCRINGTON Stanley boss James Beattie is refusing to take League Two survival for granted ahead of this afternoon’s trip to play-off chasing Southend.

Kal Naismith’s stoppage time penalty rescued a 1-1 draw for Stanley at Mansfield on Good Friday and leaves them four points and six places clear of safety with just three matches remaining.

Indeed the Reds could secure their Football League status with a win at Roots Hall if other results go in their favour.

But Beattie, whose side are unbeaten in three away matches, is refusing to look too far ahead.

The Stanley boss said: “Until we are mathematically safe then I’d urge anyone who thinks that the job is done to have a rethink,” he said.

“Until it’s mathematically impossible for us to go down then nothing changes.

“We’re still coming in and working hard, from Naz the kit man to the Chairman, we have to keep working hard to keep this club in the league.

“I have 100 per cent faith that we will do it.”

Stanley have become known for their late goals this season with Naismith’s equaliser on Friday the 15th they have scored in the final 10 minutes of a match this season including nine in the 90th minute or later.

And Beattie believes that is down to the character of the dressing room.

Beattie added: “The late goals show what great character the boys have got.

“They never say die, as it says on the sign over the pitch when you walk out at the Store First Stadium.

This is the club that wouldn’t die and the lads are taking that out into the games.”

And Beattie knows his team are in for a tough test against a Southend side who could all but secure their play-off place with a win.

The Reds boss said: “When we played them at home Southend were one of the best sides we’ve played. Phil Brown’s done a great job there but I’ve got every faith that our boys can go there and get a result.

“We’ve done our due dilligence on Southend and looked at the ways we can hurt them and get at them and we’ve touched on the ways they can hurt us too.

“As far as I’m concerned everything is positive going forward because I have total faith in the players in that dressing room.”
