ACCRINGTON Stanley continued their preparations for the new season with a comfortable 2-0 success over Evo-Stik League side York City last night.

Billy Kee put the Reds in front in the first half and Josh Windass made the result safe with a late penalty.

The result continues John Coleman’s side fine pre-season form. The Reds were 4-2 winners over Championship neighbours Burnley last weekend and have also beaten Colne and AFC Darwen.

In front of a crowd of 311 last night, Stanley led through striker Kee early on.

The former Burton Albion man, only in the starting line-up after trialist Jason St Juste got injured in the warm-up, tapped home from close range inside the opening quarter of an hour.

Stanley, who beat Burnley on Saturday, were in control during a first half devoid of too many clear cut chances.

The main concern for John Coleman’s side was a knock to Matt Crooks, who has been in good goalscoring form this summer, but the midfielder was able to play on.

Kee came close to doubling the Reds lead but was denied by Ben White in the home goal.

White was involved again later in the half as he tipped over an effort from visiting striker Marcus Carver as Stanley sought a second before the break.

Goalscorer Kee was replaced at the interval by Josh Windass while shortly after Seamus Conneely replaced Crooks.

The visitors, managed by former Accrington midfielder Bryan Hughes, were neat and tidy in possession but struggled to create too many clear cut chances.

Stanley introduced Joe Wright and brought Crooks back on after Adam Morgan was involved in an altercation with a Scarborough man which saw both players subbed.

Windass came close to making it two with a 20-yard effort but the playmaker was not to be denied when he converted a late penalty, which he won himself, to put the gloss on the performance.
