We let ourselves down, admits Blackburn Rovers midfielder Pedersen
11:08am Monday 22nd October 2012 in Football
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
Morten Gamst Pedersen
MORTEN Gamst Pedersen admitted: “We let ourselves down” as he refused to blame Blackburn Rovers’ second half collapse at Pride Park on any managerial uncertainty.
Jordan Rhodes’ 35th minute strike looked to be enough for victory until Derby’s Theo Robinson struck an 89th minute equaliser to stretch Rovers’ winless streak to five games.
Pedersen joined caretaker boss Eric Black in being highly critical of their second half display after taking control in a dominant first half – before claiming six points is now a must in two successive home games this week.
Efforts are being made to appoint a new manager in time for Wednesday’s visit of Sheffield Wednesday, although there is no certainty an appointment will be made by then. It is believed global advisor Shebby Singh has given up on landing his favoured target Tim Sherwood, but reports linking Rovers to an approach for Blackpool boss Ian Holloway are believed to be premature.
Holloway is on the club’s short list, and is believed to be interested in the move, but it is understood another option is being investigated first early this week.
Pedersen said: “Whoever it is going to be, it is going to be. I don’t believe any of the rumours until the new manager is standing in front of me and shaking my hand.
“We just have to go out there for ourselves and Eric. He is in charge now and we back him. There is no reason why we shouldn’t win games because we don’t have a manager.
“We have gone out and said we are going to get promoted. We have put pressure on ourselves and now we have to cope with it. We don’t have time to just wait for a new manager.
“I think we played good football in the first half and deserved to score more than one goal. I am disappointed with what we did in the second half though.
“We let ourselves down. We could have scored straight away when Martin got through but it didn’t happen and after that we got too clumsy, and defended too much and didn’t get out of our own half.
“It should not happen now. We should be braver and work harder to get up the pitch. We just have to get ourselves ready because the games come thick and fast.”
Without a win in five matches, Rovers are slipping down the Championship table after topping the table earlier in the campaign.
Pedersen said: “We have to win on Wednesday and we have to win on Saturday. Anything less than six points is not good enough.
“We need points to keep up with other teams. We need six points. That is the only thing that matters to me.
“We have to learn from this. It was good to play and I want to be involved again on Wednesday and I want three points.
“It does not matter how we play or what we do, it is the points that matter. It is not good enough because we should have won the game.
“It is about pride. If you are not interested in doing your job you can sit on the bench.
“We have to get up the pitch, be braver and to take care of the ball more when we have it. We defended well but in the end you can’t do that all the way through.”

Looks like Ollie or Billy in then by Tuesday and just in time for the Wednesday-Wednesday game.

He was Keans fellow coach and drinking buddy at Fulham and according to the Mail on 30th Sept 2011 was nearly appointed Rovers number 2 under Kean.
Our owners are in a constant power struggle - SS fronts for Venkys and (now that SK has gone) Agnew bats for the other 2 owners who can't be named (although one is a former manager with the initials SK and the other is a sports agent with the SEM group who's son is also on Rovers books earning alot of money although he's only good enough to play for Aldershot).
The first question EVERYONE (except that Venky/JA appologist FrenchRover) should ask Billy McK (if he gets the job) is "Who is your agent?" and "Did Steve Kean have a hand in this appointment".

The story of the match spells it out, tactically incompetent and unfit. A stand in manager who can see we are defending deeper and deeper but does not know what to do about it. And a key reason we go deeper and deeper? A squad that isn't at peak fitness to go the distance. Singh get on the phone to QPR and ask for permission to talk to Hughes and do whatever it takes to get him and his coaching team back at Ewood. As for billy McKinley, not for us as it would just be a continuation of Kean and Black.

Should we all sit quietly and watch the club being systematically raped and pillaged by a bunch of immoral shysters, because thats just football ?

Turning to the Manager's position I said some time ago that the acid test would be who Kean's replacement was; getting rid of the bald clown was only a part of the solution. I cannot for the life of me understand why we'd go for another coach who has never managed. The saying "experience is the best teacher" is actually completely wrong. It should read "Applied experience is the best teacher" otherwise you simply repeat the mistakes of the past.
Looks like Shebby & Co are about to do just that. I don't understand either why anyone would say its good news that Fulham turned Rovers down. Whoever they try and get now is going to think "I was at least third choice" behind Sherwood and McKinlay. On that basis why would they want to come? The Venkys are in real danger of losing what small gains they had made after Keannochio left. Sad days
