Rovers yet to interview all candidates for Ewood hot seat
9:53am Wednesday 17th October 2012 in Football
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
Tim Sherwood . . . targeted as potential Rovers manager
BLACKBURN Rovers have yet to interview all the managers they are considering to fill the Ewood Park hot seat – with an appointment before Saturday’s trip to Derby County looking increasingly unlikely.
The Lancashire Telegraph understands several contenders have been spoken to over the past few days but no decision will be made until they have interviewed the rest on their shortlist.
It is believed Blackpool boss Ian Holloway and Molde manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are included on the list drawn up by global advisor Shebby Singh, managing director Derek Shaw and operations director Paul Agnew.
Spurs’ coach and Rovers’ Premier League winning skipper Tim Sherwood, right, is also a prominent name on the list with Rovers expected to make an approach to the Londoners imminently.
Sherwood has been targeted as a potential successor to Kean by Singh ever since the position became vacant but an initial approach was knocked back by the Londoners.
Singh is understood to remain hopeful an agreement can be reached with Spurs though, with efforts to clear the way for talks with Sherwood set to be stepped up over the next 48 hours.
Sources close to the 43-year-old believe he would be interested in discussing the position with Rovers’ board but would not be prepared to attempt to force a move.
This leaves Rovers needing to reach a satisfactory agreement with Spurs with talks understood to be held over the next few days.
Rovers were initially hoping to have their man at the helm before Saturday’s trip to Pride Park but, with targets still to talk to, look increasingly resigned to having to continue their efforts next week.
Caretaker boss Eric Black is still also understood to be under consideration for the position and will continue with the temporary reigns as Rovers’ Championship campaign continues on Saturday.
Barnsley boss Keith Hill, Chorley’s Garry Flitcroft and MK Dons’ Karl Robinson are also understood to have been under consideration.
Blackpool were bracing themselves for an approach from Rovers to speak to their boss Holloway but, as yet, no official contact has been forthcoming, while Solskjaer would not consider leaving the Norwegian champions before the end of their season in late November.
It is understood owners Venky’s do not want to bring an ‘old school’ type of manager into the club as they look to develop an up and coming manager. It is believed extensive managerial experience is not a priority.

So they don't want to pay a top class manager ? Obviously not, so can we expect another Kean type manager
Looks like second best will do for Venkys AGAIN.

Thank goodness they've actually got started.
Any of the candidates mentioned in the article (except Black) would do for me. I'm not expecting a world beater, my expectations have been lowered somewhat thanks to the previous buffoon. Now all I care about is its someone I can get behind, someone I can respect. Then win, lose or draw, it doesn't actually matter as much because I don't EXPECT success, I just want to enjoy watching my football team play.

I'm certainly warming to the idea of Tim Sherwood being our new manager. Holloway for me is too gung-ho and Singh has already suggested the club want a manager young, fresh and hungry and Sherwood seems to have the drive and determination and has a superb reputation at Spurs. Whoever we bring in, will bring disagreement from certain quarters. For me, Sherwood will galvanise the club, will bring in good people behind him and we will have the fresh start we have craved for the past two seasons. An exciting prospect, that should get our full support.

Sherwood has all the above attributes except managerial experience, but he runs the youth system at Spurs and must be good at it because levy won't let him go.
I don't know if Sherwood is the answer, who is look at Hughes not doing well is he but I would think most fans would have him back.
There are no guarentees but I think its worth a gamble,OGS would be my first choice but Sherwood tiks similar boxes. As long as we don't get Black he is a step back.

Do Rovers haven't interviewed all candidates, or even any? Seriously did we expect anything different? What is blazingly apparent is the anger and frustration vented at Kean detracted from the real issue, Venkys don't know what they are doing around running a football club. What this latest farce shows is we need to keep on the drive of a supporters trust.
I'm beginning to think that no ' proper' manager wants to come.

Shearer, Sherwood, Holloway, McCarthy, Hill, Flitcroft, Robinson and Black.
Whilst the club has been contacted by a few others expressing their interest in the job,(such as Schuster, Clemente, Solskjaer etc),
I do not undertand why, 19 days later, the Board still haven't spoken to all their preferred candidates.
There has been a lack of communication from the club - something that this new Board promised to rectify.
I do not expect to be told the names on the shortlist, but some information like numbers on the list, time scale, etc would be nice.
I believe that the top candidate is OGS, and I would be willing to wait, but only if he wants to come to Ewood.

'If we don't get x points after x games we only have a 50% chance of getting promoted', then waste 4 games with Eric Black who clearly is not good enough for the job. Yet again, the majot high of getting Steve Kean out has been soured by Venky's absolutely clueless Leadership. I can see this getting worse, before it gets better. Listening to Shebby on SkySports News the other day was an embarassment. Pull your fingers out, surely someone at the club has a clue what they are doing?
Seeing as you didn't lose the first three (and thus be a 50% chance for promotion), he has got you as 62.5436% chances of promotion.

Black might be an assistant to the new guy , thats o.k. what he does, but we want HENDRY OUT , he arrived as Keans driver ,drinking pal , he does zilch, HENDRY GO! You being at our club tarnishes the name of ROVERS.

Let's wait and see. Why would they have invested the brass in the last transfer window - especially Rhodes - just to **** it up now?
e they don't know what they're doing! Please put it right this time. If they do proper interviews and come through them, I would like Ole, Sherwood, Holloway or Flitcroft with Matty in that order. Can't wait for Saturday

Gave the ball away a lot but I thought this was OK because he was trying to get us on the front foot with early balls to Ripley Wilcox Slater and Shearer and Newell running the channels. As a result pass completion was average.
Finally he made himself unpopular by being the first to wangle his way out of a sinking ship, which didn't exactly endear himself to the fans. Southern Boy who left his roots for what was then a unique opportunity for a bit of northern glory and at first sign of a problem straight off back to his roots where he has and should remain.
Shebby Shebby ! Get your facts straight about who really are Rovers legends and icons. Sherwood certainly is not!

Tim Sherwood was nether ,so why thr obsession. On arrival the Blackburn end labelled him "Shirley" because of his reluctance to tackle and that label stuck for a while. His pass completion was no more than average and that bothered a few fans, not me in particular because I thought he was always trying to ge us on the front foot and didn't succumb to the tippy tappy backwards and sideways. But the biggest problem for most fans was the complete lack of any loyalty at the first sign that things were on the slide. Making noises to get himself out of it at the earliest. Basically a southern boy who took a unique opportunity to grab a bit of northern glory while it lasted and immediately shot off back to hiis roots where he should stay. Shebby, he is not the man and nowhere near as popular as you and your colleagues may think !!

Eric Black is a palpably WORSE manager than Steve Kean

So everything is rosy at Ewood.
(PS: Alan Shearer wants a job you know?)
