Sherwood still in Rovers' thoughts
7:00am Saturday 13th October 2012 in Football
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
TIM Sherwood is still high up in Blackburn Rovers’ thoughts to be their next manager – but the Lancashire Telegraph understands the club are still at the exploratory stage of their search.
Bets were flooding in on the former Rovers skipper to replace the departed Steve Kean, moving him to odds-on, as the club yesterday began to think about sounding out potential candidates.
Sherwood is still understood to be Singh’s top pick but Rovers would have to pay hefty compensation to get him away from his coaching position at Spurs.
It is believed the Londoners knocked back an initial approach from Rovers a fortnight ago but no further official attempt had been made at the time of going to press last night.
It is understood a shortlist drawn up by Derek Shaw, Paul Agnew and Shebby Singh includes several names, with one believed to be Sherwood.
It is understood no formal approaches are expected to be made over the weekend though as, having decided the ‘type’ of manager they are looking for, Rovers will spend the next couple of days investigating their options more thoroughly.
A number of candidates are expected to be interviewed before an appointment is made and, with the majority understood to be in work, the process is expected to go on for a while yet.

This is a football club not a business in which you can "recover you position" after suffering a bad Quarter
Shaw and even Agnew must know this they should show some professional pride and tell thire masters in Pune how a proffesional football club should be run.

SG has come out and said Sherwood is his clear favourite for the job and I, for one, accept that he knows a lot more about the Club and football in general than I do.
If it takes time to get Sherwood let's be patient and let them do their job thoroughly for the first time.

If shebby and venkys look at sherwood before solskjar they are stark raving bonkers. I do not look at things through Rovers tinted spectacles and Sherwood, although he would probably have a better win ratio than Kean, then again so would puddsey bear, would not win promotion for us Solskjar might do, depends how bad the squad is and how unfit they are..

Unfortunately for us OGS does not want to come to the Rovers. If he wanted to be here then he would definitely be my first choice too. I would be happy with OGS, Benitez, Sherwood or Shearer. The club wants Sherwood so that is OK with me.
BTW one of Sherwood's many roles at Spurs is as Technical Coach/Manager of their highly rated Next Gen team.
Next Gen is a new Pan-European League is in its second season now and is a showcase for a lot of the top European clubs young academy players.
Some of the top clubs in Europe are taking part - such as Barcelona, Inter Milan, Marseille, Man City, PSV, Ajax, Arsenal, Spurs, PSG, Chelsea, Celtic, Anderlecht, CSKA Moscow, Liverpool, Juventus, Bor Dortmund, Olympiacos, Bilbao, Sporting Lisbon, Fenerbace, and others which include Ole Gunnars club Molde.
So Sherwoods lads are getting excellent experience competing against the top young players in Europe. He would be perfect to get our club back running properly and playing decent football again, from the Academy right through to the First team.
But its down to the club now to make their move, lets hope its all done quickly and that the new structure can be in place before the Derby game.

Hardly one of the first; he got pi$$ed off when he saw Fat Boy Kev (Davies) getting paid top dollar for doing f@ck all - about three years after winning the title.
Not convinced he would be the right man though. Still drawn towards OGS.

If it's experience you're looking for then you would go for Mick McCarthy with his win ratio and history of getting teams promoted. He was also popular amongst supporters in the LET poll.
.
If you want to go for an inexperienced manager but a popular and respected choice with supporters - and one who would guarantee to put bums back on seats - then you would go for Alan Shearer.
.
If you want to pay multi million pound compensation to employ an inexperienced manager with little respect from the supporters, but because he's a chum of Shebby's and Hendry's, then you go for Sherwood.

Flitty would be too inexperienced for my liking - but then again I don't want someone like McCarthy! Who knows - there are pros and cons to Sherwood and his team that he wants to bring with him, ditto Shearer and also foreign coaches in jobs with British links - Solksjaer and Larsson!
Go on Shebby appoint yourself - just in time for the pantomime season!

OGS - manager experience but in what league could he handle the pressure from shabby?
Shearer - people are drawn on his Newcastle record but every job is different would bring back fans
Sherwood - no direct management experience but has worked with/under/along with Harry and avb bound to have picked up a few pointers
In a nutshell avb came from Porto with a record second to none to Chelsea and basically didn't work bt now he's working his wonders at spurs so the he's got experience he doesn't is irrelevant
Sometimes it just works and I for 1 will be behind the new manager Rtid

z has no experience of managing in the Championship, neither has OGS, Shearer or Sherwood. My first prerequisite would be a man who can display experience of getting clubs promoted, failing that I think Shearer with an experienced coach could do the job based on his popularity with the fans. As for Mick McCarthy's record FR....can you please tell me of a team he has managed that has ended in a worst position than when they employed him??? COME ON BIG BOY....LET'S HEAR IT!!

You need the right manager, not some knee jerk reaction
My advice would be to get Alan Shearer
HA HA HA HA AHA
Or get Steve Kean back
Shearer and Hendry dream team. One in attack, one in defence, both to sit about drinking special brew like clowns and puking on Shebby and Rao's pony tail. As well as bullying the neighbours into handing over life savings for drinking and gambling

If thats the kind of record you want then Big mick is your man. But Keith Hill Simon Grayson and ole gunnar solskjar have been far more successful at going up, staying up and not going back down again which is mick mcarty's specialist subject. He just loves relegation the guy thrives of it. In fact he's more successful than steve kean in that area. you say mick macarthy has a 40% win ratio, so all his teams in the PL would have finished 10th. No not on your life, he has a 40% win ratio taking into account lower leagues. Kean has the same ratio in lower leagues too. Mcarthys win ratio in the PL is almost as bad as keans And he has a nose like a banana

Actually as a business model...a yoyo club is a sustainable model for a club the size of Rovers. As long as a promotion to the PL is achieved every 4 years then the club should be in a fit financial state. Fans would probably be happy to see their team being successful every couple of years rather than stagnating in the PL. It certainly helped to reinvigorate Newcastle United and West Ham of course. It is probably what the likes of Aston Villa need to bring back some excitement, to break up the monotony.
.
If we can get someone in who can get us back to the top of the league then the confidence will be back, the supporters will be back and we can all start looking forward again.

One afternoon in a Lytham over a few wee drinks in their favourite pub ,HENDRY told KEAN that he had the Rovers fans in his pocket and he would be able to keep the angry ROVERS faithful fans off KEANS back .
This would allow KEAN to keep getting his 30,000 pounds a week.
Kean thought 30,000 pounds a week this is was good money for a man that`s never played decent football ever in his life and never managed a football club .
HENDRY said OK I will come to ROVERS and take the heat off your back but I want 10,000 pounds a week , and he got it, this is the reason we are lumbered with the scoundrel HENDRY .
