Burnley chairmen surprised at Howe departure

BURNLEY’S joint chairmen said they are “surprised and disappointed” at Eddie Howe’s decision to leave the Clarets for a return to Bournemouth, but have accepted his reasoning.

The 34-year-old has parted company with the club he quit the Cherries for in January 2011 for ‘personal and family reasons’ in order to return to the south coast.

Chairmen John Banaszkiewicz and Mike Garlick have issued a statement after terms with Bournemouth were agreed following several rounds of talks.

"We are surprised and disappointed that Eddie is leaving a great club like Burnley so soon in the season,” they said.

“However, we understand that his decision reflects his personal circumstances rather than any matters at Burnley Football Club, be that supporters, the players or the board.

“We wish Eddie well in his future career and thank him for the hard work he has done at Burnley over the past 20 months.

“Since we were elected co-chairmen, we have embarked on a wide-ranging programme of development at Burnley Football Club and this will continue.

“In some ways this change creates new opportunities that we can take on board as we look to improve upon our league position and create a strong platform for the future.

“We remain 100% committed and ambitious for the club.

“Eddie’s sudden departure will not deter us from our plans and we are confident that the team will rally round while we seek his replacement – a search that has already begun.”

Why is the Chairman surprised?

Billypieman - I wouldn't wish Kean on any club - even Burnley.

At least at Turf Moor they wont endure the long slow torture of seeking a new Manager that Ewood has seen.

Go for Steve Davis now he is freed from Reebok

Never mind personal reasons, the bloke has bottled it!
Unable to sort the defence out and heading us towards a relegation scrap.
Jumped before he's pushed, knowing he wouldn't have it turned around by Christmas.
Thanks for doing fck all and taking us further backward eddie.
I take it those players you brought here from bournemouth are pleased! No doubt another summer of player exodus for us end of this season.

Who next? mick mccarthy woud certainly increase our media exposure but i don't like his brand of football. Simon Grayson did a job for leeds. I've always liked the way phil brown impressed upon the players at hull, who and what it is they are playing for. Couldn't see coyle able to take us forward, he gifted wolves 3 points by knackering the team out trying to prove himself against arsenal. Lack of strategic thinking in addition to lack of tactical thinking. There are some good managers out there, all with good and not so good attributes and track record. Is it still about moving us forward or more about avoiding relegation now?

Comments i heard attributed to him are that he could no longer stand the smell wafting over from blackburn every day and those strange sounds you make that we hear carried along with it....let's face it and given a choice.... who would want you lot as neighbours? Not surprised he's fked off, now he knows what we've got to put up with!

"We are surprised and disappointed that Eddie is leaving a great club like Burnley," say the chairmen.

In that case, you should be looking at stepping down. It's your job to have your corporate fingers on the pulse of the day-to-day running of the club. Admitting surprise in an admission of dereliction of duty and begs the question "where were your corporate fingers?"

Furthermore, you are delusional if tou think Burnley is a "great club." It's a 'once great club,' and could yet be again if it were run correctly.

The fans deserve better than managerial musical chairs and air-headed platitudes.

Well said bobinspain . It is about time these two co-chairmen left as well as " I didn't bet the ranch Kilby" who in my opinion blew the chance the Clarets had in staying in the Premiership. We will appoint a manager who will not say boo to a goose to the players or the board and chairman. And after reading the report in the Mail on Sunday Sport on Michael Appleton I predict that the no-risk taking board will appoint him as our next manager seeing as he fits into the Eddie Howe and Brian Laws mould i.e WORKING WITH NO MONEY AT YOUR DISPOSAL IN ORDER TO WORK MIRACLES.
