I listened on Radio Lancs. There were individual errors and positional errors defensively, possession football that went nowhere for most of the game, and some individual brilliance for the goals. Rovers attack should now be very confident but midfield and defence look likely to continue their usual shambolic behaviour. Great to score 5 though so tonight's going to be a good night. I'm sure we're all still hoping for idiot Kean to **** off though.

To be fair to Kean it has been a pretty impressive start to the season. And after the shambles off the pitch last season he deserves some credit for getting a team on the pitch that is competitive in this league. As I have said before - I'd rather we kept winning than losing in the hope that Kean gets the sack.

Im over the moon with the win today and to be top of the league. The big worry is that we stil have a manager who is not good enough and the defence is being breached way too ofte. We now have a defensive coach as well as a manger, so what on earth are they doing?

Come on Shebby get rid whilst there is time to organise the team before the heavy pitches and bad weather arrive. Ok we are doing ok, but we should be doing better. No goals against would be a start. According to Skysports Jordan Rhodes was brilliant, seems 8 million is a good investment. Agree with everyone about Rovers defending, they can't win the league letting in so many goals. Organisation is one thing, but there seems to be a lot of individual errors.

SK won't get the sack when he's top of the league, although can't see it lasting with lots of teams only 1 point behind.

Nelsen could see, along with other senior players, what a pratt Kean was just like the fans could. That's why they had to go. All sorts of excuses lies and excuses were made up at the time. Weren't we told Nelsen wouldn't play again ? Next news he's playing for Spurs and now QPR. The truth is they were got rid of.

Both me and my wife miss going, I know walking back to the car mid week in the winter in the cold you can often question your sanity as to why you go.

First game of the season for me and what a game! Well worth the ferry and hotel and travel costs...

Rovers were a class above Bristol City and played some superb football at times - but some poor defending almost spoiled the day for us.

Murphy and Etuhu were excellent in midfield spraying passes around for fun and up front Nunu and Rhodes were outstanding and a goal threat every time they got the ball.

Pederson played well in the second half and Dann had probably his best game for the Rovers this season.

Orr and Robbo were OK and we lost both Givet and Marcus Olsson through injury but Hanley and Martin Olsson both had good games when they came on. Bruno was abysmal on the rightside of midfield - no pace no vision and should have been replaced at halftime. Rochina was fantastic - his goal was a brilliant solo effort - him versus all the City defenders and then a great goal to end it. Rochina is certainly an impact player but he must be worth starting with soon.

The problems from City came from a poorly organised Rovers defense and there seemed to be a massive gap at times between midfield and the back four every time City attacked. The obvious changes that were needed to make us less vulnerable were not forthcoming from the odious one. We definitely need a defensive midfield option and seems we either don't have one at the club or the Odious one does not want to use one - but the lesson form today's win (and all the games this season so far) is that we cannot keep conceding so easily.

To be fair though it didn't stop it from being a great day out for close on 1500 travelling Rovers fans. Much merriment and celebration ensued after each of the FIVE goals...and the at the end of the game all the players came over and thanked the fans for some great support and joined in the top of the table celebrations....

If we can get the defensive side right then this Rovers team can go on and storm this division with ease.

French Rover, I think we all know that we just need a decent manager who can organise the defence. It's obvious to most fans,but not all, Kean is not up to it.

Well done Rovers, great to see five goals today and three points inspite of that clown Kean. The only down side is yet another game without a clean sheet. Let's get s decent manager now who can get this team performing in all areas and we will run away with this league. Good to see Rhodes proving those doubting dingles wrong that he couldn't score at this level.

The idiot is probably referring to the infamous incident at Ewood at Easter time in 1983 when about 3 Burnley idiots got onto the Darwen end roof during the derby game, ripped bits of roofing tiles up and started to throw them.....into their own fans, which got the game stopped for a few minutes. His father probably told him about it during one of his prison visits to see him and because this is still part of BFC supporter folklore (it's all they've got in 34 years, can't blame them really I suppose) he decided to use it as his user name, with the wrong year on it. Don't know which is the most embarrassing, this idiots username or the 34 years of inferiority....!

Rovers won't storm any league with a defence like that.
Look at the table. there are about four teams just a point behind. With our defence the luck will run out.

A good result but honestly speaking unless the defensive, tactical side of our game improves dramatically we will come unstuck when our luck runs out.
Every game this season could of gone either way result wise which is not a sign of a team playing good convincing football.
Keeping to my word (which is hurting) of not going to a game and putting money in the current regimes coffers keane needs to go and quick.
Who is our holding midfielder and who is organising the defense?
With our frontline we should be getting good results with ease but sooner or later if things don't change we will start losing games.
It would be the perfect time to get shut of mightymouth while we've got points in the bag and not leaving it til it's too late.

they had scored eight goals in their last two home games and only conceded a couple and were fairly confident they could turn us over today......so to put five past a decent home side was a cracking result...could have been six as we had a blantant penalty for handball turned down near the end too....yes the defense needs sorting but lets enjoy the excellent win and being top of the league and unbeaten..

When was the last time you could say that about a Rovers side?
If you hate Kean and Venkys so much do what 1,500 of us did yesterday and get yourselves to the away matches. It was superb yesterday and a really good atmosphere.
Nobody is asking you to support Kean. You don't have to sing his name. You should as 'fans' be there to support your team.
We will go up regardless of Kean being manager or not.
Everyone would be overjoyed if he got potted this afternoon but when Rovers are top of the league you would have to think that is unlikely.

No, I am not saying promotion is far from a formality. And everyone saw how we were murdered down our left flank and how static we looked at the back at times. Great to have a thread that isnt about kean...got to admit I was excited about Gomes signing he is a bit like Raul playing in Germany he is that kind of calibre...he had done it all in his career and brings alot going forward linking the midfield and forward line and can certainly finish, he also seems to enjoy playing up front with Rhodes....

Sorry to sound positive but I have a feeling we are going to walk this league....even with donut in charge...my main worry is when we get to the prem his gung ho tactics will definately be found out and we will be in the same position again.

I'm more than happy at being top of the league but I think the emotion of it all has you remembering only the good bits. In an earlier post you said that we were a class above Bristol City. Sorry, only Nuno Gomes (not Nunes) and Rhodes were a class above, our midfield and defence was run ragged all game. Adomah did to us what Diouf had done to us at Leeds, proving that Kean and his coaching staff have clearly not worked on the defence in the last fortnight. Bruno was no worse than any other midfielder or defender, if anything he was more of a threat down the right than Pedersen was down the left. That said, when CKR is fit he'll probably play wide right for the rest of the season. I don't recall Murphy or Etuhu spraying passes around for fun either, perhaps that only happened every time I blinked.

Speaking of Etuhu, he's the defensive midfield option you were asking about, still think he had a good game? We also had Jorge on the bench but I'm guessing the enforced defensive substitutions and the fact that we were drawing when Rochina came on meant that shoring up the midfield wasn't an option. The only real difference between our team and Bristol City's was our front pairing. I agree that Rochina deserves a start but I can't see Rhodes or Gomes being dropped after yesterday so he'll have to settle for the bench. they had scored eight goals in their last two home games and only conceded a couple and were fairly confident they could turn us over today......so to put five past a decent home side was a cracking result...could have been six as we had a blantant penalty for handball turned down near the end too....yes the defense needs sorting but lets enjoy the excellent win and being top of the league and unbeaten..

I'm more than happy at being top of the league but I think the emotion of it all has you remembering only the good bits. In an earlier post you said that we were a class above Bristol City. I don't recall Murphy or Etuhu spraying passes around for fun either, perhaps that only happened every time I blinked.

Speaking of Etuhu, he's the defensive midfield option you were asking about, still think he had a good game? We also had Jorge on the bench but I'm guessing the enforced defensive substitutions and the fact that we were drawing when Rochina came on meant that shoring up the midfield wasn't an option. The only real difference between our team and Bristol City's was our front pairing. I agree that Rochina deserves a start but I can't see Rhodes or Gomes being dropped after yesterday so he'll have to settle for the bench. However, I don't agree that if we'd been given a penalty it could've been six but that's more to do with chaos theory than doubting our penalty takers. Nobody is asking you to support Kean. You don't have to sing his name. You should as 'fans' be there to support your team. We will go up regardless of Kean being manager or not. Everyone would be overjoyed if he got potted this afternoon but when Rovers are top of the league you would have to think that is unlikely. It's a strange old game.If we'd won 4 games by 1-0,then i'm assuming we'd have people coming on here saying that we need more goals because we can't keep relying on the defence to keep clean sheets.

Not many teams score a hatfull of goals and keep clean sheets as well,it's usually one or the other.

Hi French Rover, I'm not convinced. Pegged back twice, after being in front. Then scoring two in injury time to win it.
Blimey, we were only playing Bristol City.

they had scored eight goals in their last two home games and only conceded a couple and were fairly confident they could turn us over today......so to put five past a decent home side was a cracking result...could have been six as we had a blantant penalty for handball turned down near the end too....yes the defense needs sorting but lets enjoy the excellent win and being top of the league and unbeaten..

I'm more than happy at being top of the league but I think the emotion of it all has you remembering only the good bits. In an earlier post you said that we were a class above Bristol City. Sorry, only Nuno Gomes (not Nunes) and Rhodes were a class above, our midfield and defence was run ragged all game. Adomah did to us what Diouf had done to us at Leeds, proving that Kean and his coaching staff have clearly not worked on the defence in the last fortnight. Bruno was no worse than any other midfielder or defender, if anything he was more of a threat down the right than Pedersen was down the left. That said, when CKR is fit he'll probably play wide right for the rest of the season. I don't recall Murphy or Etuhu spraying passes around for fun either, perhaps that only happened every time I blinked.

Speaking of Etuhu, he's the defensive midfield option you were asking about, still think he had a good game? We also had Jorge on the bench but I'm guessing the enforced defensive substitutions and the fact that we were drawing when Rochina came on meant that shoring up the midfield wasn't an option. The only real difference between our team and Bristol City's was our front pairing. I agree that Rochina deserves a start but I can't see Rhodes or Gomes being dropped after yesterday so he'll have to settle for the bench. I'll also agree that if they'd scored five we would've scored seven, it was that type of game.

However, I don't agree that if we'd been given a penalty it could've been six but that's more to do with chaos theory than doubting our penalty takers. It's actual a pet peeve of mine, when people say that sort of thing - Steve Kean saying Hoilett penalty decision at the the Reebok could've kept us up springs to mind. But, hey, that's my problem. Still, glad your trip wasn't a wasted one.

I also have to agree with those people questioning Hendry's impact on the coaching side. What exactly has he improved on since his arrival? Does he take sessions himself or does he just stand there repeating every instruction Kean doles out?

I stayed on in Bristol at my daughters and talked to several City fans last night and they were still shell shocked from losing a game they thought they had drawn.

They gave Rovers a lot of credit for the win. Not many sides will score so many goals or even win at Ashton Gate this season. They also said they would love to have Dann, Etuhu and Murphy (and Rhodes of course) in their side. Murphy made things tick for us and most things went through him. Top of the table and looking good and the good thing is that we can only get better.

He wasn't a player (what was it, a hand full of games he had) and what qualifies him to be manager of Blackburn Rovers?

If the fans had stuck together, he would have gone by now.

Top of the league...simply can't ask for any more at this stage of the season and with two home games ahead we have the opportunity to cement an excellent start to the season.

It's comments like this that cause infighting amongst the fans. People like you say that all supporters should forget about Kean, get behind the players and return to Ewood. However, you can't resist making snide remarks in the process. I'd much rather be sat next to a returning fan, who'd sacrificed the start of the season in an effort to make their point, than someone like you.

No too long ago there were a couple of posters on one of these threads that questioned whether or not those people slating Hendry would have the guts to say it to his face. I'm of a similar opinion, although I'm questioning whether some of the people on here who talk down to the stay-away fans would actually say it to their faces? I also have to agree with those people questioning Hendry's impact on the coaching side. What exactly has he improved on since his arrival? Does he take sessions himself or does he just stand there repeating every instruction Kean doles out?

I stayed on in Bristol at my daughters and talked to several City fans last night and they were still shell shocked from losing a game they thought they had drawn.

They gave Rovers a lot of credit for the win. Not many sides will score so many goals or even win at Ashton Gate this season. They also said they would love to have Dann, Etuhu and Murphy (and Rhodes of course) in their side. Murphy made things tick for us and most things went through him. Top of the table and looking good and the good thing is that we can only get better.

Dann played alright on Saturday, although we conceded three goals, but you know as well as I do that it's possible to count the number of good games he's had in a Rover's shirt on one hand. We'll have to agree to disagree with regards to Murphy, I thought he looked better than he has in recent weeks but still nowhere near the player he was at Fulham. Etuhu was more of the link-up man in my opinion but as we've already covered, he's supposed to be the defensive midfielder and didn't shine in that department. Admiration of Rhodes is understandable and I think he, along with Nuno Gomes, will be the big difference this season. Still, I wish we had a player like Adomah in our team, it's no wonder Swansea were trying to sign him as a replacement for Scott Sinclair.

The problem isnt the defence its the philosophy in the side everyone wants to attack but the team have to work harder and defend from the front.We blamed Hoilett last year for not tracking back but the personnel has changed but not the problem so the common denominator is Kean. The manager does not get sufficient respect from the players as he has never played at such an high level and obviously does not understand tatics fully.We need Glen Hoddle at the helm as the raw ingredients are there it just needs orchestrating into a fit fighting machine now.Donald Duck could keep this squad at or near the top Hoddle will have it won by January.

I think you will find I was one of the first supporters questioning Kean and I cannot stand the man. Fact is, you are one of those who pontificates about Rovers from an armchair. Was only saying that after a few weeks of 'revolt' several people I've spoken to are deciding to return this week....be good to see more of you down there, unless the Clarets are playing!

You weren't 'just saying' at all, I've read enough of your posts to know that you think you're a far superior fan compared to those that choose to stay away. Your comments were obviously a veiled way of saying, "I knew you'd start crawling back when the team started being successful!"
