'Paid Of'f' with a clause not to talk about whats going on inside the Club with the idiotic Management Team no doubt - you dont retire with immediate effect - a normal retirement is announced in advance and appropriate replacements found and announced alongside - Good luck Ken on your so called retirement!!!

maybe, just maybe, the 'immediate effect' is just part of the press statement highlighting when he will be leaving. i would imagine if the story had been prepared a year ago stating, "Beamish will retire in as commercial manager of rovers in a year's time." it probably wouldn't have got any coverage. this way, he gets a bit of a fanfare, and good luck to him.
of course, i'm speculating wildy as i don't know the truth, but hey, it's the LT messageboards - if you're at the party, you may as well join in the dance!

Anecdote time - watched 'Beamo' with 5 mates from QEGS - years after - one of us met him at a function - he opined - 'I am a bit of a joker off the field' - my mate's unhappy rejoinder 'You were a bit of a joker on it tbf Ken!' Whoops! Legend that he is he took youthful excitement at meeting a hero of the 1970s in good part - for this and more he is a legend - 5-2 Plymouth will always be with me (he scored that day!). Then later it was used every time an opposition player missed the goal. They must have wondered what on earth that was about!
So! Who of the old guard is left at the club! Can't be many now. One by one they are disappearing. If it had been the old Soviet Union they would have vanished without trace. But even the Venky's couldn't arrange that. But I bet they have gagged him.

Yes indeed. In our family to this day if anyone commits a blunder of some sort it is met with shouts of "BEAMOOOO" from the rest of the family. No one knows why or even where it comes from. Happy days!

You retire with immediate effect when you are being made the scapegoat for something. In Beamo's case the lack of sponsorship. It is a euphemism for being fired when the victim is in later middle age.

So we "are off again"! Terrier man partly got it right in so far as Beamo turned 65 last Saturday. At present, this is the normal retirement age, so where is there "a rat to smell"?

Beamo was a lucky man to play professional football, and whilst he would not have earned the amounts of today, he was fortunate to work on the commercial side of the club for many years, hopefully earning good money. Perhaps it is the time when he thought he would "put his feet up" for a well earned rest.

Most people would love to be in this position at age 65.

Gordon Lee signed Beamo for 25,000 Pounds back in 74 from Brighton - and though he was only at Ewood for a couple of seasons he became a legend - more for his 'misses' than his goals. Though he did score 19 in 86 games. Lovely chap....always time for a word with the fans and an adopted Rovers fan throgh and through who must have hated the last 18 months...enjoy your leisure time Ken.

Yes I remember the 5-2 win over Plymouth. Rovers went in 2 down at half time, one of the most memorable games I have ever seen at Ewood. Ken was a very popular player and notorious for missed sitters. Good man, enjoy your retirement.

That Saturday afternoon the sun was shining as well as a fantastic game of football, I remember it well, stood on the riverside ! Happy,happy days !

yeah, we were losing 2-0 if I recall and Plmouth were our main rivals at the top of the league

I watched a few games last season with corporate hospitality and Beamo made no bones about the shambles going on behind the scenes, one can possibly deduce he has said something against the regime and been flirted, funny how Venkys are quick to fire people who speak put against Kean but not s quick to get rid of the unsackable one. All that being said Ken would be all on his own with nothing but tumble weed to amuse him this season in the lounges as no one has renewed.

As usual its a very poor way for a long term employee to leave his job.

Was that 1975, seems a long time ago. I remember being a little late on the ground, I had stopped off in the Ewood Club for an aperitif. After several Aperitifs I was about 10 minutes late on the ground. We seemed to be 2-0 down very quickly against our biggest rivals, then i think we missed a penalty. I was just thinking of returning to the Ewood club and we made it 2-1 at half time. I thought I will give the second half 10 minutes and see what happens. It turned into one of the best days ever at Ewood.

Beamo was a very nice man, always very approachable, remember seeing him in the Little Bull in Blackburn one Xmas Eve and he was drinking cokes. He kept himself very fit. He missed a hell of a lot of chances, but at least he got in positions to miss chances.

congratulations Beamo - fond memories but .....lets be honest the world has moved on from the genial ex footballer heading up the commercial operation of an organisation that needs to compete with the Premier league power brokers.

the fact that we have no commercial sponsors is - in part - due to the complacency of our past management including cuddly Ken.

it hurts to say these things but we have to get realistic.

it does not excuse Kean - he is completely out of his depth - but I sense that there are others who are not - it is just that they are very clumsy in the way they currently handle the PR process.

they have had to make tough decisions to move us on from where we were and bigger decisions are still needed -but we have to accept these things- we cannot control them -unless we can raise the £millions/billions that the Venkys et al can raise.

Get a truly professional manager in - and we will see things in a far more positive light

He seemed very capable of doing a good job until 18 months ago, I wonder why that is ?

Ken Beamish a true gentleman and will be missed as he had become part of the furniture at Ewood,, he did a lot of work behind the scenes as well as selling advertising space and sponsorship and will
Always be respected for his loyalty to the club .

He may have missed a few chances in his playing career but at least he would always get in the right place and was never scared of having a go , he scored 159 goals In his career so not a bad return for Beamo .

Beamo will have told Venkys that all this was down mainly to the widespread dislike and distrust of Kean amongst the supporters and that Kean needed to go. Beamo was then finished with immediate effect as have others who have told the truth to Venkys. IMHO this is my reading of events.

I remember one particular game..... i think it was in our promotion season.....
I had taken the afternoon off from work on a whim and decided to travel up from Portsmouth for a Wednesday night game at home against Wolves. Did not have a ticket but it wasnt a big problem those days.
Pouring with rain and not looking forward to the drive back to Pompey after the game.... i got to Ewood around 6 ish.
Went into the 'Ticket Office' and attempted to buy a ticket.

Sat behind the counter was a rather orange looking Beamo with his bling, suited and booted, feet up on the table, entertaining the young girls who worked in his commercial empire. Gigling away at his banter whilst filing their nails I was given a derisory look.
Now you have to remember I had just driven for 5 hours in terrible winter weather, I was cold, hungry and I only wanted a ticket for the game.
I was informed by the 16 year old behind the counter whilst continuing to file her nails that I was too late to buy a ticket.
I explained my reasons for being late expecting some sympathy as it was not as though it was sold out.
Up pipes Mr Beamish asserting his authority in front of the ladies and basically tells me it tough titty!

Well as you can imagine I did not take to this kindly.
I knew one of the ladies who worked their and said she would vouch for me being a Rovers fan.... but too no avail.
Whilst getting angrier another Rovers fan in the office spoke up and informed me that it was no good attempting to appeal to their reasonable side as he was in the same boat as me and he had travelled all the way from Sweden.

Now those of you old enough to remember the great days of the old Ewood will remember the way Rovers fans were treated by the staff .... basically we were the bottom of the food chain, and Mr Beamo wasnt about to give me the time of day, after all I was only a lifelong fan and he was the 'Comercial Manager'

So the bottom line is I say good riddance and how the hell did you survive so long. Expected Jack to sack you the day he took over!
And by the way I got a ticket off one of my mates who decided to spend the evening in the local rather than freeze to death on the Blackburn End..
More fool him eh!

As a footnote; I was involved in a crash on the way back.... was late for work and being in the forces got fined.

Ah the good ol' days.

He survived as long as he did thru pure luck and being in right place at the right time.Jack would have sacked him as soon as he came in but felt sorry for him .As I said earlier " Beamo you were an extremely lucky man to have lasted as long as you did " enjoy your retirement.
