They arrive at Ewood Park along Grzegorz Sandomierski, who earlier joined on a season-long loan from KRC Genk, and take Steve Kean's summer recruitment drive to 12 players.

11:00pm

Southampton striker Billy Sharp has joined npower Championship side Nottingham Forest on a season-long loan.

VERSATILE winger Cameron Stewart has joined Burnley on loan from Hull City until January.

Clarets manager Eddie Howe swooped before tonight's 11pm transfer deadline, meaning the 21-year-old is available for selection for the visit of Brighton tomorrow (Saturday).

The 21-year-old, who can play on either wing or as a central striker, has been brought in to fill the void left by injury to Danny Ings.

Stewart, who has made 50 appearances for Hull - including three this season, is a product of the Manchester United Academy.

Lambert defends lower league signings

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert insists he has faith in hungry and young players from lower divisions to revive the club's fortunes ahead of Sunday's Barclays Premier League clash at Newcastle.

All three are included in the squad for the trip to the Sports Direct Arena.

A short statement on www.acmilan.com read: "AC Milan announces that it has bought outright Manchester City's Nigel de Jong, who has signed a contract until June 30, 2015."

De Jong, who has been given the number 34 shirt, goes straight into the squad for tomorrow's Serie A match at Bologna.

1:07pm

Villas-Boas wants window closing early

Andre Villas-Boas has added his name to the growing list of managers who think the transfer window should close before the start of the season.

Villas-Boas is expected to be one of the busiest managers in the Barclays Premier League today as he looks to snap up at least two new signings and off-load a number of players before tonight's 11pm deadline.

Although he signed Jan Vertonghen and Gylfi Sigurdsson before the season started, Villas-Boas has only just been able to integrate Mousa Dembele and Emmanuel Adebayor in to his squad after their recent arrivals.

Villas-Boas also had to contend with having an unhappy player at the club's training ground after Luka Modric's move to Real Madrid dragged on to the point where the Croat was forced to train alone so his unhappiness did not affect the rest of the squad.

Villas-Boas, like fellow managers Martin Jol and Martin O'Neill, believes the transfer window should shut before the start of the season to allow everyone to have a settled squad by the time the campaign begins.

Sinclair completes Manchester City deal

Manchester City have completed the signing of winger Scott Sinclair from Swansea for an undisclosed fee.

Sinclair, 23, excelled in South Wales after struggling to make the breakthrough at Chelsea.

He was an integral part of the side which earned promotion to the top flight in 2011 and also impressed on their opening season in the Barclays Premier League.

"I'm just glad everything is settled and that I'm now a City player," said Sinclair.

12:35pm

Villa sign Chesterfield's Bowery

Aston Villa have confirmed they have completed the signing of Chesterfield striker Jordan Bowery for an undisclosed fee on a three-year contract.

Bowery becomes the sixth new signing at Villa this summer following defenders Ron Vlaar, Joe Bennett and Matt Lowton, and midfield duo Brett Holman and Karim El Ahmadi.

His father Bert Bowery was also a striker who played for Nottingham Forest under Brian Clough before moving to the North American Soccer League in 1976.

Villa boss Paul Lambert said: "Jordan is a good player. The hunger will be there for him and he could surprise a few people.

"He's a good lad, he's strong and powerful. He's played over 100 games in the Football League and cup football, so he's battle-hardened.

"He's one for the future but if he steps up to the plate like I think he can then I would have no hesitation in throwing him in, none whatsoever."

11:38am

Villa enter race for Dempsey

Fulham's United States international Clint Dempsey has been a target for Liverpool, but it's understood Aston Villa have entered the race to sign the 29-year-old.

Sources close to Villa have confirmed the midlands club had reached agreement with the Cottagers for Dempsey with a bid of around £7million being accepted.

However, Dempsey still wants to make the switch to Merseyside with the Reds his number one choice.

Villa boss Paul Lambert is also closing in on the signing of Chesterfield striker Jordan Bowery for a fee of £500,000 plus add-ons.

Medical for van der Vaart

Tottenham forward Rafael van der Vaart is travelling to Hamburg to have a medical at the German club, the player's agent has confirmed.

Van der Vaart has enjoyed two successful seasons at White Hart Lane, but he wants to return to the club where he spent three years prior to leaving for Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, here's the picture from Clarets:

EDDIE Howe is only expecting to add to his squad as he remains in the market for a forward.

But with the possibility of key players attracting interest as the clock ticks down to tonight’s 11 o’clock transfer deadline, the Burnley boss insists they would only sell on their terms.

Midfielder Chris McCann attracted interest from Norwich City earlier in the summer and Swansea before Brendan Rodgers left for Liverpool, while Everton are also understood to be keen on the Dubliner.

Striker Charlie Austin could also be a target for Huddersfield Town after they lost Jordan Rhodes in an £8million move to Blackburn Rovers , although I understand their list of targets at the moment includes DJ Campbell, Fraizer Campbell and Leicester City duo Jermaine Beckford and Paul Gallagher.

But after completing the record £7m sale of Jay Rodriguez to Southampton earlier in the summer, Howe was not expecting to lose any more of his key players, and his stance has not changed.

“I always think it's a nice thing when you're players get linked because it means they're performing. But I'm pretty confident that we can keep hold of them,” said the Burnley boss.

10:23am

Here's what happened at the Rovers press conference this morning:

BLACKBURN Rovers manager Steve Kean has admitted that there could be more transfer activity at Ewood Park before tonight's 11pm deadline.

Rovers yesterday completed their £8m record signing of striker Jordan Rhodes from Huddersfield Town.

But there could still be further additions today, while Kean has hinted at this morning's pre-match press conference that one or two players may also leave.

Steven Nzonzi, Martin Olsson and David Goodwillie are among the names that may depart the club.
