Maine Road 1 Colne 3

COLNE bounced back from a midweek FA Cup defeat with an excellent win in the North West Counties League Premier Division against in-form Maine Road.

The Reds took the lead on 21 minutes when Thomas Fowler rose high in the goalmouth to head home Kieran Demaine’s corner.

But Maine Road hit back 11 minutes later as Jerome Bryson equalised with a powerful low shot from the narrowest of angles.

Nine minutes into the second half, Chris Thompson made a great diving save to keep out Tom Bailey’s shot as Maine Road pressed.

But a minute later it was Colne who regained the lead when Dominic Craig’s cross found Paul Fildes, who scored with a shot on the turn.

As the Reds kept up the pressure, the ball found Fildes wide on the left, who fired home a well driven low shot into the far corner of the net for Colne’s third goal.
