FULL-TIME: Burnley 2, Bolton 0
5:12pm Saturday 18th August 2012 in Football
MARTIN Paterson and Charlie Austin combined to give Burnley an opening day win over rivals Bolton Wanderers.
Former Clarets boss Owen Coyle came out to a chorus of boos, and the afternoon only got worse for the Scot on his return to Turf
Moor.
Paterson gave Burnley the lead in the 39th minute after Eddie Howe's men had enjoyed a spell of pressure.
Junior Stanislas and Dean Marney both had drives from distance blocked, Marney's diverted straight to Austin, who teed up Paterson to score with a close range header.
There was a hint of offside, and the Bolton bench asked questions of the officials at the break.
But Wanderers had no answer to Burnley's lead, which was extended through Austin just before the hour.
Chris McCann started the move, and almost finished it when Junior Stanislas sent in an excellent cross.
The ball was just out of the midfielder's reach, but Austin threw his body at it to knock it beyond Adam Bogdan.
Bolton immediately brought on Chris Eagles and Benik Afobe in a double substitution, later introducing Darren Pratley from the bench.
Sam Vokes, Ben Mee and Brian Stock came on for the Clarets, with Mee clearing Zat Knight's header off the line to preserve a deserved clean sheet, as Burnley got off to a winning start.

Manuel T'Rovers drew 1 each with Ipswich, although Ipswich didn't actually score. Blackburn kindly scored one for them in their own net ha ha. They're sitting nicel down in 14th place just now. Let's hope the only direction of travel for them is downwards!

See your all still obsessed with T'Rovers. You sad sad b4stards. Keep up the gobsh1ting and mouthing off as usual. Seeing T'Rovers are so 5h1t these days maybe you'll manage the result you all crave and exist for this season. I pity your infatuation....... love and kisses ****
The Claret's comments are positive by comparison.("Gather ye rosebuds" sunbeam).
You should be grateful for any post that doesn't castigate Kean, the team or the owners.
Any post remotely positive about Your lot is unlikely to come from your fans in the coming season.
Life's a **** eh?
