FULL TIME: Ipswich Town 1 Blackburn Rovers 1

A late Jason Lowe own goal saw Blackburn Rovers have to settle for a 1-1 draw in this afternoon's Championship opener against Ipswich.

Colin Kazim-Richards gave Blackburn Rovers a 1-0 lead at half time but a defensive second half display allowed an average Ipswich get back into the game.

The Turkish international headed home from close range on 21 minutes to give Rovers the advantage.

But Lowe deflected into his own net on 82 after Rovers had been penned back for most of the second half.

After a scrappy start in which Ipswich dominated possession without ever looking as though they were troubling Rovers' back four, it was the visitors who struck first.

Morten Gamst Pedersen's left wing corner picked out the unmarked Scott Dann and his header back across goal was headed home from close range by Kazim-Richards.

Ipswich continued to pass the ball around the midfield without any real penetration as Rovers comfortable soaked up what was thrown at them in the opening half an hour.

Goalkeeper Paul Robinson was first called into action on 41 as he got down low to keep out Aaron Cresswell's free kick from the right.

Robinson was busy again in the dying seconds of the half when he turned Martin's 20-yard strike wide. Martin then nodded over in the last action of the half.

Rovers almost doubled their advantage soon after the restart as the alert Kazim-Richards latched onto a hopeful from Bradley Orr down the right and attempted an audacious chip with Scott Loach in no man's land. The ball landed on top of the net.

The hosts should have been level on 54, Robinson did well to parry Martin's 18-yard strike wide.

But, with the keeper on the floor and the goal gaping, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas attempted to take a touch and the ball ran away from him.

Rovers seemed content to sit back on their first half lead as Ipswich all the second half pressing, without having that final ball to hurt their visitors.

Rovers should have been made to pay for their second half showing on 79 though as Luke Chambers found himself free just yards from goal but missed his kick as the ball bounced off him and wide.

Ipswich got their deserved equaliser on 82 minutes though as Jason Scotland got on the end of a deep free kick to volley across goal and, with Michael Chopra waiting, Lowe saw his attempted clearance fly into the net.

It could have been worse for Rovers had it not been for a brilliant block from Gael Givet in the dying seconds as Martin looked certain to score.

End of the day, still not good enough. On paper, we have one of the best teams in the Championship, but we don't have the manager who has the ability to use it.

Okay, it's not the end of the world but if sitting back and defending leads for 45 minutes is a tactic (as was disastrously the case last season!), then we will be well short in the final table.

The result here, is not that bad but it's more the performance and the application of ideas which continues to leave huge question marks over Kean. We won't be promoted with Steve Kean, it is just not going to happen. Bite the bullet and make the change Shebby.

Still hopeless punts from Robinson, still players out of position, still players who can't play for 90 minutes, still tries to defend a 1 goal lead , still makes poor substitutions...Kean still here and that means I'm still sad.

.
They had a moron of a manager in Laws, they replace him with a good young manager who brings in decent players, within their limited budget - and hey presto, they stopped the losing habit and slowly but surely they are puting a small but reasonable side together playing good football - I watched their game today in the internet and they were worthy winners (Bolton were truly shocking though).

Balajai Rao was at Ipswich today and surely he must have learnt enough about football by now to have realised that Kean is a tactical retard - trouble is, he has to persaude his moronic sister to pull the trigger

Well speaking as a happy clapper I would have taken an away draw before the game. That said I was disappointed that we didnt either see it out or score again. It is a legimate critiscm of SK that he should know better by now than to try and defend a one goal lead.
However a point away is a decent start and given that all the negative girls were saying we would get tonked I would say not bad. Bring on Hull!

Some how, our team save S.Kean, Thanks to players, Specially to Kazim and Robbo.

We need to rethink about defence technics.

Kean should recheck his first 11 players next match, more fire power needed, you cannot go back to defence after one goal. Attack with your power for couple more to stabilize the win and give more time to bench players later in the game. Its foolish not attacking after the first goal.

I am happy atleast we got one point. Kean is safe. I love this game.

I have compared the side that played today at the Turf compared to the day Bolton were relegated from the prem. I have a feeling that you will find of the 18 players named on that day a total of 11 were in the 18 today so on that basis i would have to draw the conclusion that yes they were the same POOR BOLTON SIDE that finished 5 points above you, in fact a total of 7 started both of the games. A Burnley supporter , down in London , picks up a hooker. 'Hey, how much you charge for the hour ?' he asks.

'£20' she replies.

He says 'Do you do Burnley style?'

'No' she says.

'I pay you £200 to do Burnley style.'

'No', she says, not knowing what Burnley style is.

'I pay you £300.'

'No', she says.

'I pay you £400.'

'No', she says.

So finally he says, 'OK, I pay £1,000 to do Burnley style.'

She thinks, 'Well, I've been in the game for over 10 years now. I've had every kind of request from weirdoes from every part of the world. How bad could Burnley style be?'.

So she agrees and has sex with him.

They do it in every kind of way and in every possible position. Finally, after several hours, they finish.

Exhausted, the hooker turns to him and says, 'Hey, I was expecting something perverted and disgusting. But that was good. So what exactly is Burnley style'?'

The Burnley fan replies 'You send bill to Government.'

Results speak for themselves after West Ham win their first game back on the big stage, it shows we got rid of a Premiership manager to bring in this useless p***k. I mean even a Sunday league manager knows you can't sit back on 1-0 lead. That was the wonderful leadership of our insightful owners, not to mention Mr Anderson. By the way, has anyone looked into who the agent is for a lot of our new signings? I'll leave that with you. KEAN OUT, VENKYS OUT. Stop funding them.
